Hey guys...just so you know that perch is the Maryland state record that was caught in a 1/2 acre farmpond in 2006 on a jighead with a piece of worm, yes, laying on the bottom while the angler was helping his kids with a tangle. The fish was 16 1/4 inches long and weighed 3 lbs. 5 ozs. Research has shown this to be the 4 th largest perch, by weight, ever recorded in the U.S. The lucky angler is Phillip Deere IV. and the fish was caught on 3-12-06. MD biologist believe that it may have been the only yellow perch in that tiny pond as Mr Deere had fished there numerous times before and had never caught a perch there. What an amazing story of an incredible fish!
My personal best from MD was a 15 1/4 in 2 lb 8 oz fish from Deep Creek Lake back in Feb of 2007 thru the ice. There is a pic of that fish in my photos. I don't know for sure, but I think my fish is amung the top 3 or 4 from Maryland. My friend Ron Munshower has taken numerous 2 pound plus perch ice fishing at DCL. He may well have surpassed the 2.5 mark, but he never weighs, just fillets, the fish.
