Well kids thats what you get when you do your homework!
I Filletededed all of them suckers and soaked em in lemonpepper marinade made by heinz and a lil bit of lemon juice and tobasco for about an hour then battered em up in some zaterans lemon pepper batter and fried em till they floated. WOW that had to be the best so far. We eat half last night and I personally finished the other half when i got home from work today. 45 fish and im guessin the stringer was 20 21 lbs of bulls.
I think my "Yankee" roots are showing because I'm the only person in Georgia to call blugills "bluegills" instead of "bream!" Some use "bream" to cover all members of the blugill family, but most use bream only for blugills, an "Shellcrackers" for redears.
I will do that fo sho! Were goin white perch fishin in the mornin so add us in your prayers tonight! Im gonna take a bucket of worms and still get 200 crickets just in case. My wife has summond me to a fishin trip in the mornin and shes a crapie lady.
Bruce, This is a great site and I am happy to find some like mined folks out there. I will be posting some blugill pics soon. And make that big nasty pike go away. The digital camera is nowhere to be found.
FO SHO! I remember when I was a kid beggin anybody that would take me to go fishing taking up any op that I could. We didnt have much and as much time as my pops spent at work he didnt need a snot nose kid bangin in the boat when he got the rare chance to go. I just recently puchased my grandfathers boat that passed away last september and Im doin exactly as I told him. "If I had that boat pawpaw it would be a floatin." Started out bass fishn but I was constanty drawn to that popping sound that surrounded me. It was like Paw Paw was sayin that aint what I bought it for. I just recently began searching for the ole blugill again and I think hes fishing with me cause Ive been blessed with the catches after doing a little homework and getting back in the swing of things. I mean its august and over 100 degrees and water peeking at 92 plus degrees now and Im still hitting my limits. Freezer is full so now its selective and taking those that dont have the op. to go.
This photo was taken about 3/4 way through the project, 15 tri-axle dump truck loads of boulders for dam facing and structure. The pond is now 1 1/2 yrs old and we are catching 12 to 14 oz bluegill and 2 lb + hybrid stripers. The drought in NC is killing us though and the water level is down 25% or more. Great to find such a great web site for pond owners.
Very nice fish . I just got homefrom a meeting in Columbia Ms. , we had a very good time and it was educational. The Odd Fellows Grand Session of the Grand Lodcge. These people know how to be friendly. Now back to the fish, I will see if I can get a b igger fish thisafternoon --but I do not expect to catch a bigger one so Bruce I yield to your larger fish.
Thanks Bruce. I've been looking for a web site such as this one to expand my knowledge of fishing for big bluegill. I use to be a "gill" fisherman several years ago until my cousin introduced me to Smallmouth Bass fishing and I've been devoting my fishing time to chasing those "ole brownies". However, I want to once again try my hand at fishing for "big" bluegill. I look forward to sharing info. Thanks G Hilliard.
Happy to be here Bruce. Glad someone made a spot to give these beauties their due. I started like most "Bream" fishermen do, cane pole and some wigglers. Someone tells you fishing is boring, take them fishing in a good bream hole when the first spawning starts ;-)
Bruce, thanks. I am in the process of managing my small pond for large bluegill. When I bought the property, the pond was full of small bream and green sunfish. I started stocking bass from another lake on the property. In just a year or two, the bream went from 3-4 inches to 7-8 inches. As of now, the pond balance looks good. I don't plan to feed, just grow em naturally. I might add some redear's. You have a great website!
Regarding the "scud" photo, people are probably looking at it going "What the heck is that? What does that have to do with raising big bluegill?" All I can say is that "scuds" are the "magic fish food."
Hope to get some new pix for this site. I started feeding again about a month ago and they are feeding like they haven't eaten in months. Nice site!
