Lone Elk Park Lake is a catch and release only lake run by the St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation located in Southwest St. Louis County. Only artificials can be used. They allow only 2 boats per day on it and you have to reserve it far in advance ($30 per day). Fishing is from 8am to 6pm. I only get to fish it a couple of times per year because it fills up quickly. It is loaded with big hybrids, bluegill and longears, as well as crappie, small bass, catfish and MONSTER carp.
I used to fish Hudson quite a bit growing up but never really caught much of any size out of there. I know it is full of smaller crappie. Do you know if it happens to have Red Ear in it? A friend of mine said he caught a Walleye out of it but I really do not think it has any in there.
I fished Osage for the first time about a week or so ago and all I caught was a small Coppernose and small Longear. Not what I expected from that lake. Have you caught some nice ones from there?
Hello Greg, I take it you live in pittsburg Ks .Cool little collage town,I have yet to make it back there. Was outside going thru my tubing stuff, trying to get all in one bag lol haveing the tube with me would make fishing somewhat easier, being able to get off the banks and out into the less pressured water.I really enjoyed the mined area fished from the afternoon before and into the next afternoon ,had the whole park to myself most of the day easy to do when you fish a weekday ha ha look forward to fishing there again! maybe finding someone to show me the some of the better spots to fish notice I did'nt say best spots you can keep those up your sleeve lol till next time g
Oh gosh, they have names? All I remember is the park was only 1.5 miles away from the pet food plant ,drove in a clock direction started fishing at the 3rd lake on left and hopscotched around from there. Was able to get a map of the whole area after my licence expired, still carry it in the truck.I definatly want to get back there, can't remember exactly when I was there (have to go back thru my permit stack do like the idea of setting my start- finish time G
Hey Greg...back in the old days, shad were highly prized for their roe and flavor and were pickled, broiled and baked as a food fish. Since 1973 Maryland has had a moretorium on shad. However, the past ten years has seen a resurgence in these fish in areas of the Mid-Atlantic. As a result, we can now fish for them on a catch and release basis. This is great news for recreational fishermen. I have only been fishing for them for the last five years and some of my 'all-time' best trips on the water were shad fishing. They cannot be commercially harvested at this time.
Thanks, dragonfly's fascinate me. By the way your "crappie spider grub" looks good but think ya might need a few more rubber legs up top. I was thinkin of tying one and using long guinea hackle up top. I'll have to see what I can come up with.
Yeah if there is any left, I found that while googlin' (deep) for bluegill pics. I've seen all sorts of fish, but that's the first time I've ever saw hot squog before.
