Storing Your Grubs is Not As Good As Fishing With Them

(Alternate title #1: So You Want to Push Your Spouse Over-the-Edge - Keep Spikes in Your Main Fridge)

As the first title says- bait was meant for fish to eat, for you to fish with and not…

Gettin started

Im a 'returnee' you might say. For years all I ever did was fish. But in the past 15 years or so, that has fallen away in favor of other things. Oh, I kept a few items of tackle, just enough should I decide to wet a line once in a while. But for the most part, I just quit going.

Recently, I moved to my dads house and 'inherited' all his fishing gear.** This has inspired me to get back into fishing.

** For the record my dad is fine... he just moved to a senior living…

All-Time Bass Angler?

Ok, I know many regard Rick Clunn as the greatest Bass Angler of all time.  However, Kevin VanDam must be neck and neck with him now without any argument!! KVD is just dominating the tournament fishing world.  His winning percentage is just crazy!  Mr. Clunn entered 32 Classics and won 4.  KVD has entered 21 thus far and now won 4.  Mr. Clunn has entered 363 tournaments in his career and finishing on 259 occasions in the money.  That is very impressive compared to the average many others. …

The Bullworm had a free day......

I finally got some ice time in!!! I have been so bogged down with school and work that I have not been able to get in as much time as I wanted. I was finally able to get away today and drill some holes. Things started out real slow. Not much time had passed and I soon realized I needed to go deeper than my usual 7-9ft. Yup, that's right 7-9ft. I'm a sight fisherman! Staring through the hole, playing the puppet master, that's what I do most of the time. Except for today. Today called for a depth… Continue

Short Trip to Davy Crockett Lake

Went to Davy Crockett Lake Tuesday afternoon with my son. We threw tiny crank baits on ulta light gear. We didn't get a bite  but had fun. The water is as low as I have ever seen it. I walked out to the edge of my favorite blue gill bed and built a small fish attractor out of driftwood.

This is one place we can fish from the bank and catch good numbers of fish. I Introduced my kids to fishing here when they were little.

No Orleans Bluegill Adventure

A Sad Tale

What a sad story - my trip was cut short and I lost all of my fishing day. No Lake Ponchartrain, no Mississippi and No Orleans bluegill adventure for me.

The only photo I have to share from the past day's fishing is this nice 1/8 lber. that I caught at the local burger hole. The story gets worse- much worse. I get home Saturday (not Sunday) after a rushed trip…

New Member from West TN

I live in central West TN and love to fish for Panfish especially big bluegills. My son and I chase these little giants all spring and early summer. We are lucky to be within 40 minutes of Reelfoot Lake.  We also fish Kentucy Lake, Garret Lake, Davy Crockett Lake, Gibson County Lake and the lakes in Natchez Trace State Park. I am willing to share my knowledge of our area and hope to pick up more tips from this web site.

New Orleans Bluegill Adventure

Ok - I am in New Orleans and have never fished for blue gills south of Missouri so tomorrow I have a tackle shop lined up and am going to try and get out and try to find some of my blue-gilled friends.

Last night I tried to find some food and my way around Bourbon street. I did alright for a tourist. We found some authentic New Orleans food - Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches! Ya, so I struck out there. But - I had more success on the music front. You know how you are supposed…

Winter

Who has the lowest temperature? It's 25 here in NE Texas.  That's not bad.

gill fishing sunday, a little redneck ice fishing

Instead of watching the Superbowl, I headed out on a mission, to find open water. Here in So. Il, we don't have ice thick enough to ice fish, but a skim coating, so you cannot fish, either. So I called a friend of mine about his pond, He said, just break you out a small spot by dock. So thats what I did, found me a big stick and went to work, but had no way to remove ice chunks, this limited hole to little sections. Fishing was slow at first, had a Thill shy bite, long shank #14 hook, I had to… Continue

Mid-west weather

I was in the shop putting the head on a #12 wolly bugger when my buddy Mike showed up.

We tald for a few minutes when the subject of the snow and ice outside came up.  I told Mike that I could not think of any good thing to say about the current conditions.  He just smiled and said we are one day closer to those brime beds

Kind of glad Mike came…

Early Spring Bluegill Trip? Early Summer trip?

Looking to take my boy on his first real fishing trip (a few days) on his spring break the last week in March.  Can't think of a better fish to get him some good action than the bluegill.  Any recommendations for a good destination that time of year?  I'm in the Chicago area, looking to not venture too far.   Considering Reelfoot Lake, Kentucky Lake, Lake Norfork, some southern Illinois lakes.

Our other option for a trip is when he gets out of school sometime after June…
