@Shawn A. - a lot of lakes in California take a long time to warm up from the winter because they are fed by snow-melt from the Sierras. A couple years ago, I caught a 7-inch female 'gill in the San Diego River out in Santee/Lakeside in July that was full of eggs. That quite surprised me, because the SD River is not a snow-melt river and Santee/Lakeside is quite warm.
Chris, You surely can catch some large fish. You may want to consider harvesting one of those giants for a free replica. I can make a mold of the fish, cast a reproduction and paint it from your picture reference.
