Hey Carl ,here's a pic of some real small Porcupine Quills ,2"-3,3/4". I was given these but don't think I can use them ,too small .What size quills do you use  ?

  • John Sheehan

Thanks for the response , I figured you use them on cast less cane poles .When you use those 7-9" can you /do you cast them on UL gear ,maybe using 2# test . What about ice fisherman using these small ones I have ?Wonder 'bout that . Also , how do you doctor quills for fishing ?

  • dick tabbert

Welcome aboard Carl you got my juices flowing again. I know I have much to learn myself and hopefully with all the knowledge on this site we can become better accustomed with our electronics.

  • Slip Sinker

Had a great time fishing your quill bobbers yesterday... very sensitive.. and very addictive type of fishing. thanks again!!

  • Greg Sheehan

Thanks for the Welcome, Carl. Looking forward to BBG membership.
  • Greg Sheehan

Carl. It's fun but dangerous. Did you see that pic of me getting impaled by Orrin's crank bait?
  • Shawn Puckett

Hi Carl. Looking forward to meeting up in the sping. My parents live on KY lake so we fish for Crappie and sauger all winter then Bluegill all spring. I'll be looking for more details as it gets closer. Thanks.
  • Shawn Puckett

Carl you mentioned that the spring gathering was being held in the Paris area of KY lake but I see people talking about it being around Camden? Has it changed? Thanks.
  • Joe Gill

Hey Carl, I do plan on attending the Camden Rendezvous this May. Unfortunately, I have never fished that area, even though it is only an hour from my house. My next door neighbor was raised in Camden and catfished commercially there several years ago. I'm hoping to get him to either tell me or show me some of the local bluegill and shellcracker beds prior to the event.
I'm really excited to make some new friends and possibly even get to fish with some of ya'll as well. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
  • Mo Fish

Thanks for the friend request. I am learning about this fly fishing game. It is a lot of fun. I have been practicing my roll cast and it would be nice to see an expert show me the right way. I can' t make this year' s rendezvous but I will definitely keep my calendar open for next year. Until then, I will keep at it. I have already gotten a lot better but any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • R. Michael Charske

this is a sample fly only. tied quickly and will be cut apart.

is this what you are looking for ?

    comments welcome

  • Ken Koffel

Sure do, he is a member of our Fly Club and hve fished wiyh him on occasion.

  • Joe Gill

Hello Carl, I'm hoping to start scouting later next week when the weather warms up. Also my neighbor, who was raised and commercially catfished in Camden, has told me of one particular spot that has always worked very well for him in the past. I'll be looking to wet a line with you there soon my friend.
  • Joe Gill

Thanks Carl. I also hope I can find some real soon. Take care for now.

  • Sam Holt

    Hey Carl,

     Thanks for the friendship!

I got my two boys that keep me hopping! They are 46 and 48!

  • Jimmy Lawrence

  • Sam Holt

    Hey Carl!

went through and looked at all of your photo`s, man there is a lot of artificial flies and

did you tie all of those?? Man those are nice and congratulations on a job well done!!

Those pictures inside the cabins looked real neat too!

  • Marvin Morgan

Carl,  I thank you for your response to my inquiry about depth/fish finders.  I am sure the one you mentioned is very good, but two things scare me off about it right away.  First the price (really more than I want to part with for a first unit) and the second is about being able to do all the computer stuff with it.  Me and computers are barely on a first name basis!!  I definately am going to do some research on some of the units, and try to get one into my "fish arsenal" very shortly.  Thanks again for your reply.

  • Marvin Morgan

Carl,  I do wish to thank you for adding me to your "friends" list.  Another reason I think this site is such a great one!!  I think that I will definately do as you reccomended, and go for the Cadillac finder, rather than the Chevy!!  You had one in mind that you were talking about, that cost somewhere around $500 you said. What make/model was it that you were talkig about?  I go by Cabelas in Owatonna, MN. a few times a year, and have a lot of "Cabela Dollars" on my account, so that would be a good place to use them.  Thanks also, for dropping Leo's name to me, and I am sure that I will be in contact with him to pick his brains more than once.  Computers are great tools, but for someone like me, they can also be such a frustration!!  Thanks again Carl, and I look forward to more chats with you.

  • Marvin Morgan

Carl,  have you gotten that Lowrance depth finder ordered yet??  I keep thinking about just getting ahold of Cabelas, and spending some of the Cabella dollars that I have and get one of those units myself.

  • Marvin Morgan

Carl,  I clicked onto "chat" and tried to type a msg. to you, but then could not figure out how to send it to you.  Me and computers................Ughh!

  • Marvin Morgan

Carl,  Now comes another question that I did not think to ask you two msgs. ago!!  Are you near Reelfoot?  I have driven "by" the lake a couple of times, but have never gotten a chance to actualy fish there.  A bass fishing fanatic friend of mine and his brother use to go there every spring, and he was going to take me next spring, but ole father time caught up with him, and he passed away this summer!!  Now its back to square one to try and get down there.

  • Tinknocker1

    hi Carl ,
im kind of a springer guy but i know them Air Force guns are awsome ! i never dove into the pcp guns yet but i may some day !

  • Cindy

Yes they are. By the family that invented them! I remember when my dad was putting these into production. A lot of trail and error, but always made with pride. He had a great love of fishing which I hope to keep alive! Thanks

  • Damon Toney

Hey, I noticed you were trying to contact me?

  • Damon Toney

Yes, I have heard of those and used them. The reason I made these was the parts were much easier to find, and much cheaper. In fact I made a porcupine-type quill float out of a piece of balsa coated in boat builder's epoxy.

Hi Carl, Happy New Year and good luck with fishing in 2016. Finally have everything finished and settled at our house. Now I can get on with fishing. Going to go South first sometime in February/March.

Just curious, does TN have income tax for retires?
  • Kelly Peterson

May is when I'm fishing here in WI-season opens first Saturday in May. Where is it this year?

    Don't understand your "camoflauge" comment?

So no tax on retirement income or just no sales tax? We are contemplating another residence for colder, winter months which could become our permanent residence for tax purposes to get away from paying State Income Tax. Florida and Texas don't have income taxes but neither of those appeal to us. Arkansas does not tax retire's  so that could be a consideration but don't know how good the fishing is there except up by Lake of the Ozarks and the White River.

  • David Hughes

I am and we should talk. I am in Bethpage.

  • Benjamin Walter Romine

Will do, Carl. It is not original with me . Will try to find name of fellow who 'stumbled' on it several years ago.   Really simple, very effective, will not discolor over time and makes grain really 'pop' especially on unstained wood. I really like Walnut or similar hard wood because of far less blotching. There is an answer to prevent that with a simple per-stain treatment before using the rubbed oil finish. I will send you a step by step of the process. I'm no expert, but it has worked well for me from the first time I tried it.        best,  Ben

  • Gregory Pischea USMC Dr. Ret.

Thank you Carl for responding  to an old retired Marine doctor with 29 ( I tell people 30 ) years as combat doctor before going on to flight school and spending my life in the military flying around the world many, many times. Now here in Western Michigan I can fish all I want on my ponds here on my horse ranch.

Thanks again in saying hello ta a new member of our club

    God Bless

    Colonel Gregory Pischea USMC Ret,

  • Benjamin Walter Romine

Happy birthday Carl. As the days are heating up, make sure to prep your birthday suit for some fishing and sun exposure.

  • tracy willis

hey mr hendrix. havent been active on here in a while since i first joined. ive been aiming to come to the rendezvous and hope to next year. it seems like every summer about that time i start getting migraines that last off and on for most of the summer. i did hit the crappie pretty hard january-april and it was a good year for crappie. i only bluegill fished a couple of times this year and it was disappointing on KY lake. the size of the spawning fish seem to be declining in certain areas of the lake, but when guides take clients out and keep 150-200 fish a trip then its bound to take its toll. the shellcracker were ok but they came in earlier this year it seems.

haha, still trying to figure out this forum board, hopefully i commented in the correct place.
  • dick tabbert

    At least 4 or 5 I'm thinking.
