Oh gosh, they have names? All I remember is the park was only 1.5 miles away from the pet food plant ,drove in a clock direction started fishing at the 3rd lake on left and hopscotched around from there. Was able to get a map of the whole area after my licence expired, still carry it in the truck.I definatly want to get back there, can't remember exactly when I was there (have to go back thru my permit stack do like the idea of setting my start- finish time G

Hello Greg, I take it you live in pittsburg Ks .Cool little collage town,I have yet to make it back there. Was outside going thru my tubing stuff, trying to get all in one bag lol haveing the tube with me would make fishing somewhat easier, being able to get off the banks and out into the less pressured water.I really enjoyed the mined area fished from the afternoon before and into the next afternoon ,had the whole park to myself most of the day easy to do when you fish a weekday ha ha look forward to fishing there again! maybe finding someone to show me the some of the better spots to fish notice I did'nt say best spots you can keep those up your sleeve lol till next time g
  • Tim C. Homesley

Yes just north of pittsburg, not sure exactly where I was, I was with a buddy that fishes over there a lot this time of year.
  • Zach Pierce

I used to fish Hudson quite a bit growing up but never really caught much of any size out of there. I know it is full of smaller crappie. Do you know if it happens to have Red Ear in it? A friend of mine said he caught a Walleye out of it but I really do not think it has any in there.

I fished Osage for the first time about a week or so ago and all I caught was a small Coppernose and small Longear. Not what I expected from that lake. Have you caught some nice ones from there?
  • Brian Voss

Lone Elk Park Lake is a catch and release only lake run by the St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation located in Southwest St. Louis County. Only artificials can be used. They allow only 2 boats per day on it and you have to reserve it far in advance ($30 per day). Fishing is from 8am to 6pm. I only get to fish it a couple of times per year because it fills up quickly. It is loaded with big hybrids, bluegill and longears, as well as crappie, small bass, catfish and MONSTER carp.

Greg-Tried to send you a PM but it doesn't go through. If you are interested in some tail feathers from my wifes African Grey parrot ,I'd be happy to send you some .I catch fish tying them into jigs and I'm sure they would be useful in your fly tying . Just a gesture ,don't feel obligated if you don't think you'll use them or want them.

Thanks for the comment Greg. Since I filet all those fish my hands are sore this month! My family and I have had a great time this month and have enjoyed some great bedding action. It is my passion and we are blessed out here in Northeast N.C. with great Gill fishing throughout the Summer. Good Luck this week Greg.

  • Flyboy

Trying to get used to the set up of this site lol.  Thanks for the compliments and the welcome.  Right now my flies of choice are Wilson's sponge spiders.  you can pick them up here:  http://thebluegillpond.com  I'm in the process of rebuilding my fly collection since all of mine from when I first picked up a rod *age 9* are rusted. Hopefully I'll be tying this winter seeing how our fun ends with the ice!

  • John Sheehan

You get your package of Bird feathers in the mail yet ?

  • John Sheehan

Greg -Check out the Perch group.Alec Stansell posted pics of Flyrod Yellow Perch!Merry Christmas man!

  • Leo Nguyen

LMAO! Remember, every fisherman's tale, or BS, has hints of experiences and truth, which become very useful. There was one person that use the saying, "You can't make an info sandwich with just a few crumbs. If you search long and hard enough, all those crumbs get mushed together, you'll get a hell of a sandwich.." LOL

  • DAVID L EITUTIS

    HEY GREG,

GLAD TO BE IN YOUR GROUP! Who took the pics while you were at the strip pits in Kansas? Great shots one and all. Are those public lands to fish?

       Keep the pics coming !!!!!!!!

       THANKS

Greg I did find a reel in the barn unused unopen. It is a Cortland Carisma 4-6 what exactly that's means I don't know. I do nee some line so next time I'm at Bass Pro or Cabela's I'll get some 5wt line. Then reality will set in when no tree on the property will be safe. Keep in touch and I honor your opinion that's why I asked all then hard questions and you come up with all them useful answers.

  • Florida Boy

Hey Greg that hybrid electric chicken that you posted a pic of in the crappie fly rodders group, where can I find tying instructions for that? and how do you make the krystal flash collar on the spark plug?

  • Mark Stine

thanks the spark bug was the first one that really caught my eye its a really cool looking fly.  what hook did you use? and have you had the most luck with the chartreuse and black or tried any other colors?

  • Ronnie M.

Hey Grey. I glue two colors of foam together then cut the foam to 1/8 strips. Lay down a layer of thread and start tying the foam at the bend of the hook. Make two or three sections of body and when you get half way on the shank I use a little super glue on the front half. Split the hook shank again and make another wrap and add the deer hair wing. Fold the foam behind the hook eye and tie in at the same place you tied the hair on the hook. Then use two rubber legs on each side of the body and cut to length. Here is a better pic. If you need more pics let me know.

  • dick tabbert

Greg I have a question regarding my fly line. When I cast out the small popper I can see the fly line start to sink and then it sinks my popper. Do I need new line or am I doing something wrong.

  • dick tabbert

Greg what kind of weights can I fly fish with on a 2WT. I don't even have the 4WT down and looking for a 2WT.

  • dick tabbert

Thanks for the come back. I was looking at a 2WT Diamondback fly rod 8'

  • Bluegill Timber

You must be a boater, floattuber or kayaker if you fish the mines. Only way you can fish them.

  • Jim Gronaw

Hey Greg...don't believe that I posted my final count. Total fish were 2129, with I think like 1700 were panfish. I thought I was doing good until I asked Jeffrey what his count was...sheeeesh! Like over 4000 in his boat in 2012! Wow!

  • carl hendrix

hi greg good talking to you buddy. yep im a fly rodder to.  beginner fly tyier ; full time retired . conserving my energy till spring!

  • mike martinez

  • Joe N. Birdwell

Thanks so much Greg! I agree I am so excited about this site and finally being able to fish again!

  • LedHed

We got rods - no experience. You would be slayin in the shallows, out here, right now. Got lots of bug hatches and fry too.

  • Keith Owen

    Greg-

Thank-you for the concern... we are doing ok. Some shingle damage and a fair size branch off of the front yard oak. Without power for a short time. We are MUCH better off than many others. We got through all three storms. My Emergency Response Team was called in to Moore after the second bad storm and into North Norman after the third. The first storm that went into Little Axe missed us by a hair as well.

Sorry for the long time before the reply. Been busy with work and the ERT. We have been assisting the Red Cross with supplies and unloading trucks.

How has the fishing been up your way?

    Keith
