One of my new bass fish died! Maybe more, but 1 is all I saw.
  • John Sheehan

Sharon-I am no expert but temperature has to be controlled before releasing fish into a new environment.Dont want to shock them. Did you take temps of water the bass came out of and water going into?
  • 10.5" RES Sharon

Sure did. The water in the bag was the same as the creek before I put them in. Strangely, they all swam away, but seemed to need oxygen and were gulping at the water surface. Haven't seen any more dead ones though.

Any of you throw Gary Yamamoto 4-6 inch senkos? I've caught my some of my biggest bass on senkos live bluegill and football jigs.

guys do you have anything to help me with this year.... cuz we are having trouble catching them this year! please help i dont know what to do.
  • Josh Neugebauer

i am talking about bass we are having trouble catching bass this year help me please
  • John Sheehan

Josh ,first let me say thanks for creating this group page. From your picture it looks like you don't need help catching Bass!
Hit the shallows early and late if you are fishing from shore.Look for steep banks on the shoreline and fish slow after covering ground at a quicker pace to contact fish.Topwater and wacky worms are catching the majority of Bass for me.Topwater plugs like Heddon Chuggers ,Jitterbugs, Zara Spooks can be great catchers but sometimes they are more effective as search baits. The Bass reveal themselves by swirling at these lures and are then caught on a nother rod rigged with a rubber worm.
  • chris

josh, i have been having luck on the same stuff john has... i would also try a white or chartreuse spinner bait fished at a moderate speed and also silver bass assassin on a jig very slow over deep drop offs an on mid lake humps.
  • Josh Neugebauer

Sure thing John and Thanks guys.... what i have been catching my bass on a lure called " Bass Stopper" what it is its a rubber worm about five or six inches long and they look very real. They come in purple black with red and more...so yes they are very affective.
  • Josh Neugebauer

We fish off our boat and i wuz wondering what fish could you catch with yellow perch and bluegill... the fish are like catfish musky bass walleye stuff like that and we fish on a lake.
  • John Sheehan

Josh ,using the same tactics,I catch Crappie and White Perch along with Bluegills ,Pumpkinseeds, and Yellow Perch in my home NJ lake.In other nearby lakes Red Breasted Sunfish come into the mix as well.
  • Josh Neugebauer

so those are good for catching musky walleye and cat?
  • John Sheehan

I only caught one Musky in my life on a white Spinner bait...only three walleye in my lfe ,all on Shad raps.Biggest channel cat 30"came on a worm... bullheads on hotdogs and other baits
  • chris

has any one caught any thing good. haven been out since my boat broke. hopefully i can fix it for the weekend
  • Jim Gronaw

Hey Chris...we have had a run of about 2 weeks of very good bass fishing in small lakes and ponds with Senkos, Yum Dingers and buzz baits. Weather is cooling now and I think fishing is going to pick up all over. Some of our fish have been trophys.

  • John Sheehan

    Great fish Vincent !!
  • John Sheehan

Vincent -Let me rephrase that .It's an AWESOME BRUTE of a bass.
I implore you to tell me details on how that fish took that Super Spook. Depth of water, type of cover etc.
My biggest Largemouth also took a topwater and I left it motionless to entice it.It was about a 6#er and it took a classic Hula Popper in 3-4 ' of water .The fish was near a bush and a fallen oak tree.
  • John Sheehan

Heres a link to Vinces kiler lure.
Would like to know water conditions and color lure you used Vincent.

    The Hula Popper I used

    is this one:

just saw ur question john i was working this bank with two submerged trees just off of it its really shallow cuz of littler rain she hit in about 2-3 feet of water i walked the dog with the bait for maybe a foot then paused it she missed it the first time and cleared the water by about a foot or so and i saw her and said to my gf "thats a four or five pounder" so i threw back in and retrieved it about a foot stopped it and blam she hit and dove i didnt want her to get hung up so i brought her in as fast as possible maybe 15 seconds and she was in the net thats when i realized it was a pig sorry for the long story
  • John Sheehan

Submerged trees .Are we seeing a big bass pattern here or what!?Almost lost mine to the tree also .
  • chris

  • John Sheehan

Got a 3.9lb. 19 " Bass snapping a 1/8th oz. Little Cleo off the bottom in 6' of water .A horizantal presentation from a boat.
Great New Jersey late season 2 and 1/2 hrs. of fishin' with Perch ,Crappie 3 bass and nice gills .Biggest gill was 9" all gills 'tween 7-9"....25 fish ...12 kept for dinner. Lovin' it!
  • John Sheehan

Jigged up a couple of Bass through the ice yesterday .Chartruese Genz worm/mealworm took a fat 15" that fought great! A 13 " that also fought great fell for a Chartruese teardrop/Gulp Maggott.
  • John Sheehan

Who is catching Bass thru the ice ? Only got two jigging Jan 1st and a buddy got one a few weeks later on a tip up shiner .Where do they go and how do you catch them consistently thru the ice? They are ghosts come ice fishin' time for me.
  • chris

  • John Sheehan

That away Chris .I just started getting dinks but have not gotten any good sized .Not for lack of trying .I been throwing flutter spoons and Reaper tipped Jigs and 16th oz. Marabous hoping to trick some nice sized early LMouths. The PSeed ,Gills and Yellow Perch have been cooperative however so not all is lost:)
