Josh -I only caught three Walleye in my life and I dont remember them jumping.Dont recall but I'm thinking the walleye with light sensitive eyes would bulldog back to the weeds or rocks where they came from. You might have had a nice bass there bud!
Hey guys, I did my normal boat patrol at Piney Run on Tues evening and ran into a local basser who was deep cranking the hydrilla at about 14 to 17 ft down and ripping the baits through tops of the weeds. Between two anglers they had 10 bass. I weighed several of them...topped by a 21 1/2 in 4.87 lber and four others over 4 lbs. Smallest fish were high threes...a very nice catch and the water was at 70 F.
Might want to consider deep cranking over weed tops in your neighborhood!
Thanks Jim-70 degrees then but cranking is still working in November in New Jersey and although I havent taken a temp and have been concentrating on numbers of panfish on jigs I 've caught two very nice bass cranking in 4-10 FOW. A stop and go retrieve. One bass at 6' was was 18.5 inches ...the other
around 16 or 17" .Not Brutes but I was casting cranks only a few times because I've been wiping up on Crappies and Gills with jigs and sticking mostly to that.I gotta say I usually ditch bassing with cranks this time of year but dont believe it has been my smartest move.
I fish for Bass most of the time I'm on the water. When I want to load up some eating fish, I will go after some Gills, Crappie, and walleyes, and catfish! I do most of my fishinf in WI & IN. But I have traveled all over the midwest and parts of the south! I am glad someone thought of starting this forum, after all the Bass is in the Sunfish family!
Great late fall bass bite, Bill! It has been 3 weeks since I caught a fish, so I am pumped to get in on some crappie, pickerel and bass action next week if the weather holds up. Shallow ponds in Delaware with 'deep' holes at the base of the dams are but 4 to 7 ft deep, often concentrating many species in high number.
Nice looking combo. I just got a Kistler Micro Magnesium 7' heavy action rod. I have a Quantum PT Tour Edition 7:1 Burner baitcaster reel on it. I use it for flipping and pitching, and throwing frogs or big swimbaits! I flip in a lot of heavy cover and use 65lb braid to haul the bass out of the weeds, lilypads, and brushpiles. The line holds up well when rubbing on the wood in the laydowns.
Here you go John, this is a link to Kistler's site. I have the Micro Magnisium rod. There are all kinds of rods to choose from; http://www.kistlerrods.com/
This was my good friend and fishing partner's bass boat,
It's a Gambler 2100 with a Merc 250XB, Top speed, 87mph(GPS'ed). He sold it this last Oct. Broke my heart!
This was caught on a #10 crappie hook and a flathead minnow at my pond. LOL should have seen my gardbabie eye when this hit her pole.

well....it was in the upper 70's and 80's all week so on saturday at about 9 in the morning i started fishing at Sparkle Lake in yorktown heights (a little was up from Mohansic Lake). i used one of my small flies (ill take a pic of it later this week or next week) and put on some burkley gulp magot type since i didnt have anything else and cast it out, waited till i saw the bobber bob so i pulled my rod back slightly and brought him in. in all i got 3 fish. almost got 4. it was about 46 degrees so it felt realy cold after the warm weather. the whole time i got nibbles.
Two decent Bass yesterday One on a Jersey Rigg worm and one on a Bomber 4F.Both fish came in about 6' or less of water.Got 5 other small bass on the same two lures.
Bass in NJ are also hitting 3" Swim baits.
On 7-5-10 Caught several bass (fat 16 -17")with the Jersey Rigg worm and the nip-i-dee-dee topwater plug.
'Crazy crawlers 'get them too.Going out a few hours before dark.
I have a question for bass experts. I got some 5" bass today to put in my creek. The fishery only put about 4" of water per 25 bass. Got them in the creek within 30 minutes, but most of them seemed to be staying near the surface and gulping. Do you think they are oxygen starved? They are swimming around fine, do you think they will recover?
