If the picture loads this is the Bionic Worm
This is tied on a shrimp hook saw it tied on a curved cadis hook. It is tied with a maribou tail, The body is rubber skirt from a buzz bait or hula popper, wrapped up the shank tojust behind the eye. Just a few wraps of lead substitute, or a bead head. Colors are up to your imagination, but pink won the gill race. Now lets see if the picture loads.
Okay yo-folk , lets see another. Bionic worm is one of many worm flies, easy to tie. Fished on floating line with or without a strike indcater ( fly rod cork), or on a intermediat sinking line, strip and pause, gills seam to like it on the drop.
Steve I am not sure of the hook size. I got an assortment pack of those hooks so not sure but it was the larger of the assortment. lol. On the curved caddis nymph hook size ten. Friend gave me some size 6 curved hooks for a really big worm. One thing I forgot to add after wrapping the body forward Wrap wire inbetween the segment of the rubber body. Gives it a real segmented look.
This is a simple ant pattern.
The body is a rubber shelf liner, walmart has it. Cut out 2 rubber bumps , tied in at the middle.
Dry fly hackle- 2 or 3 wraps for legs
You can add a wing for visibility.
This one was tied in a size 14 dry fly hook
Another easy fly. Estaz Spoon fly. Tail is maribou, color your choice
Body- estaz
The hook is bent downward 1/3 of the way back from the eye ,add lead wraps between that bend and the eye. This will caust the hook to ride point up.
Robert, Haven't fished it Greg post a pic og a woolie worm asked somebody to ty in fly form. That must have been a big sucker That is a 8 2extra long hook. Ought to flot really good the is a lot of hackle in it.
i havent fisehed with one yet but i have tied a couple of them up a very easy tie to do. as soon as i get this cast of my left foot 2mrow i may be able to go fishing if it dont rain. if not then on saturday. if i can tie it anyone can
The Lowly woolie worm, great fly. The one on the left is tied wraping the chanille up , then wrapping your hackle up. The one on the right, tie in chanile and hackle. Pull both down in front with the stem in line with chanille. Stoke the hackle fibers so they stick out. Clip hackle pliers on stem and chanille and twist. The hackle becomes part of the chanille, wrap forward. The flies look about the same but a That hackle is locked in, and a fish will not break the hackle
Kirbaer, Sounds like great fun. I would love to sit down and tie with you. Maybe one of these days. If you get a chance you need to come down to the Smallmouth rendevou in I wrote an invitation for all in BBG you would be a nice addition to the tieing event.
I'm new to tying, but love to do it. When I hook into a gill with something I've tied it makes the catch all the more enjoyable. I love to fish poppers more than not, but have not been denied on sinkers either. Does anyone have any fly patterns that produce in very deep waters?
A couple of books that I have recommend micro-jigs - especially in the winter. Maybe black or olive marabou. But I tied a few and don't like the way they cast.
