This will be a GREAT group! As a guy who 'never grew up' from bluegill fishing, the memories just flood my little brain to the point where I would like to write a book about 'back in the day' fishing adventures around the mid-Atlantic region.

More comin', but it's late and I have to get some sleep!

When I was a kid we had a small, shallow farm pond in our pasture. I chopped the ice in the winter so the cattle could drink, and in the summer months I wore out my old canvas tennis shoes walking laps and casting my way all around it. The pond had been "bucket stocked" years before I got there, and was full of Bullheads, Bluegills, Green Sunfish, and Black Crappie. Just about the worst possible stocking combination you could imagine. At a later date we added a few Largemouth Bass, but by then they had more work than they could handle.

I think I knew every stand of cattails, every hole,  every log, and was on a first name basis with every turtle in that little pond. My trusty zebco 202, as well as a later 600, provided me with many long, enjoyable hours, as well as helped lay the groundwork for a lifelong love affair with Bluegills.  They were stunted and small, but they were surely plentiful, and always happy to accomodate an 8 year old angler who's biggest worry in life concerned being able to dig enough worms for the day, in the heat of summer.

I've fished a lot of water since then, and although my gear no longer includes an old Zebco, or a hand-me-down rusty metal tackle box, the memories of carefree summer days at the water's edge of that old farm pond make up an integral part of the angler I've become. The scenery may change and the gear may get a little nicer, but almost 40 years later I'm still walking a shoreline, and I'm still casting for Bluegills.

HOW RIGHT YOU ARE BRUCE. Ya know I used to be a Bass fisher man till I discoverd the fight in gills. If they grew to 10-20 pounds you'd need salt water tackle to get em in!!! That may be something you should work on, GILLS 10-20 POUNDS!

THANKS FOR BEING THE FIRST ABOARD BRUCE.

I'm right with you, my friend.  Bluegill themselves are the poster-fish for the good ol' days.

I DIDN'T THINK that I could start a group but guess what, IT'S EASY!!!

HERE'S SOME OF MY VIEWS, LIKE EM OR NOT!

I believe that if we don't take care of the kids today and show em something besides the most modern advances in electronics , they are missing out on some other things of meaningful  existence .

Old tackle , it may be new and still 50+ years old, BUT STILL SERVES A PURPOSE. IF for no other reason than to honor it's inventors with the notion that newer , faster, high tech graphite gear is the only way to go, IT'S NOT. No I know this high tech gear has it's place , just not for me anymore.
When I sit around talking with buddys , AL THE WOODMAN, OLE BOB, MY KIDS , and others who aren't too busy to listen it harkens me back to the days when ROBERT RUARK was writing his exploits  of the OLD MAN AND THE BOY!!! What a time to have been alive !!!

Sitting in my basement shop talking with friends is one of the cheapest and most pleasurable things I do and fills the void in the winter when I don't fish. It lends anticipation to the upcoming season of chasing gills , redears and crappies!

Anyone else with similar views sign up NOW!!!!!

  THANKS
