many thanks to Leo!!! just a few days ago; Leo got rid of a lot of gremlins in my computer;; made it run better; and faster! it was amazing the way he did it; and really in no time;; it was fixed!! now if I just knew what im doing on a computer; might help a lot!! MANY THANKS LEO!!!
I'm always will be at your service Dick. Always be glad to, and willing. You are definitely not my biggest pain. Actually, I am. Too high of an expectation of myself to master and resolute all issues coming into my laps. I don't call it quit until my brain reaches frying stages, or I'm unable to reach a conclusion, including from external help.
Good going Leo you'll be flying now for sure with you knew outfit. My system is due for a dust bunnies check. Your last visit made me good but never fear if it can be broke I'm your man but so far nothing you haven't been able to fix. Your my guru in the long wire only a click away. Thanks for all you have done I know I'm one of your biggest pains but I feel good with you helping me because of all your knowledge. You a very bright individual and we are blessed to have you. A big thank you kind sir. I can contend to the dust bunnies they do get up in there and can ruin your machine and mine will be history here very shortly.
It's been to long to not have any update. However, great deals which I have purchased today:
Summer days are coming, and dust bunnies gone insane, I've purchased this full tower to support my need for ventilation:
Thermaltake Overseer RX-I Full Tower
* I have been waiting for this baby to go from $200+ down to $100, and now, below $100. Purchase today or tomorrow, and you'll knock it down to $59, with free shipping as well. DEAL!!
* This unit is loaded with connectors, external hard drive to plug in just in case you need that extra storage space using a protected hard drive from somewhere, like me.
* TONS of filterings screen to prevent the larger dust bunnies from killing your system. Of course, the micronized ones..well..it happens. But at least you don't have to clean your system too often.
* Massive air flow. I mean MASSIVE! One massive fan on top to suck your hot air out. One massive fan in front to cool your hard drives down. Plenty of options to add more fans, but it will make your system sounds like a jet engine.
* Plenty of options for computer geeks for cooling and lighting..
* By the way, IT DOES NOT COME WITH ANY POWER SUPPLY! It's just a case for you to transfer all your old components over to the new tower. If you don't know how to gut your system, best to have a computer geek somewhere to help you out. I will be gutting my system to stuff into this beast of a tower. My components generate so much heat that it feels like I'm sitting next to a car's radiator on a summer day.
Now, great deal for storage. I'm always opting for Western Digital hard drive, especially for high performance NAS (Network Attached Storage), which allows you to do a daisy chain (add a whole bunch of them together to create one gigantic storage space), something like YouTube. However, let's be serious. How many of us is going to do that, beside me? So, I got this:
Seagate 4TB Barracuda Hard Drive
* Lower power, and still great balance for performance.
* Performance is at 6GBps transfer rate (180MB per second solid transfer speed), humming at 5900RPM (audio low enough not to drive you insane), and running at 8W so it doesn't fry an egg in your system. All my other hard drive is running high at 7200 to 7900 RPM. Let say, those babies are summertime friendly. Love it during winter time, since they keep me warm.
* Great storage size at 4TB, which now allows me to storage another 9 months or so worth of photos and videos..sheesh. Go Mrs. Nguyen! You surely kill me with your selfies and videos.
* Massive reduction from $190 to $159, and $10 for the coupon code "JAM130702" until 6/16 which brings it down to $149.
Prices of storage and memory (RAM that makes your system go faster) are dropping like flies. If you need help with looking for expansion for systems, let me know.
Hi Eric, JB hits a few points on the laptop. I'm pretty familiar with it. Let's nail things in order:
1. The corner hinge is easily fixed if you have the part for it. The part for it is rare, if available, it would cost about $22 or so. Repairing that hinge requires you to fully remove the LCD panel, the full bottom panel, and the keyboard. If you have not play with laptops in the past, I wouldn't play with it. If the laptop is reach its life ends, I would say, super glue it shut to prevent the corner from popping up. E6000 craft glue from Walmart will do that trick. Don't use/open the laptop for 72 hours to allow the glue to fully cure. it will be solid as a flexible rock. Yeah..sounds pretty strange, doesn't it about the glue? If the bent hinge is your only worry, either deal with it for now, as the corner glued down, or use the needle nose plier with care to straighten out the body of the hinge.
2. To effective clean the internal system, you have to remove ALL the lower part screws:
a. Remove the battery.
b. Remove the removable drives (DVD/CD).
c. Remove any expansion card (PCMCIA), USB connection, etc.
d. Remove all small screws at the bottom of the panel, and put them safely away. Most screws, if not all screws, are the same size and length. Some may slightly longer due to area and component being used near the fastening housing.5. You may need a butter knife or a short large flat head screw driver to pry the plastic housing apart, gently! There are a few plastic quick snap connections/edges which hold the bottom panel together with the bottom half of the shell.
6. Use a horse hair brush with the vacuum cleaner tube position about 4" away from the component as you gently remove the dust buildup. Horse hair prevent static build-up. Vacuum a few inches away, at 1/2 power if you can, will prevent sensitive circuit from being damaged, either by static field from air currents, or directly contact of the hose.
Hi Eric,
I'm not very familiar with Toshiba Satellites, so what you should do is google a maintenance/repair manual for your specific model and see how difficult it is to open it up for a cleaning.
Some machines are really easy to work on because they were designed that way (ThinkPads, at least in the IBM era; not sure about Lenovo ThinkPads) and some are all the way at the other end of the spectrum (Apple laptops; Apple doesn't want _anybody_ opening them up except for professionals). Everything else is somewhere in between.
WRT the hinge, you might be able to do that while you have it apart anyway. Proceed cautiously. If in doubt, take it to a shop and get their opinion of whether they can do it and for how much.
If you do get it open, gently clean it with compressed air or a canned air duster. Don't use a vacuum (potential static problems).
I have a question for you all. Well a couple of them anyway....I have this lap-top. It's a Toshiba Satellite. I got it at a pawn shop for cheap. When I got it home I noticed that the hinge on the right side of the screen was bent and when you open it to see the screen, that corner raises up. The computer works fine and so I kept the computer. My question is, is there any way to straighten out the pins that the screen opens on. And question two, how much more diffacult would it be to open this up to clean the inside of it....Sure do not want to mess it up or me up for that matter....Thank you for your help...Eric
