Last year (2009)was the first year slip floating for me and found it to be very effective.Would like folks that are into this kind of fishing to post photos of gear and tips on the best rods ,reels ,bait and terminal tackle to use.

Slip Floating Trying to get it Right

5.5" Gill slip floated ,produces 19" Bass Channel Cat took a Marabou/Mealworm Jig at 5' under a float

22" White Sucker took Crawler piece on a Yellow 16th oz Marabou Jig. Pear shape Balsa float pictured behind me.

Eagle Claw Pencil float...needs a bead so as not to split the stem at the base after constant banging against the jig head after casting .

Presentations that are working : AFTER CASTING AND LETTING FLOAT SETTLE :1) SLOW STEADY RETRIEVE 2) POP FLOAT ONCE OR TWICE , WAIT 3) SLOW 6" SWEEP FORWARD WITH ROD TIP,LET FLOAT SETTLE AGAIN

Comment by John Sheehan on November 15, 2014 at 12:52pm: water temp down to 46 degrees ,caught fish with the 3" weighted float which got out to the fish nicely from shore on a short rod ,but the drop of 2-4 degrees in water temp means I should be balancing a different float.Some misses and half hearted takes today .

A small swivel or snap is a good choice.

There's a little socket into which the spring loop seats when configured as a slip float. I've been known to expand it a teeny bit with a drill, but it's not usually needed.
I've never had one come loose and go flyin' off, anyway.

Probably the most popular float in the South.
Cool thing about them, they can used as a fixed OR slip float

Comment by John Sheehan on November 14, 2014 at 1:12pm: Yesterday ,I used this float with a 32nd oz Jig /tipped with crawler piece and caught 20 fish , 5 species. .It worked decently in 50-48 degree water . It casted nicely and casted the light jig 3x as far .It's a 3" weighted fixed foam cigar float.
