I once read somewhere, don't know if it's true, that if you took any living thing on Earth, and grouped them up, eg: all humans or all elephants or all mosquitos etc. Then weigh the groups that earthworms would outweigh every other group. No wonder Bluegills are such prolific breeders. Somethings got to keep the worms from taking over. They were meant to be fed to bluegills. Present them on a hook so you can be sure you delivered the meal. And is that incessant cricket chirping getting worse or…

No wonder Bluegills are such prolific breeders. Somethings got to keep the worms from taking over. They were meant to be fed to bluegills. Present them on a hook so you can be sure you delivered the meal. And is that incessant cricket chirping getting worse or am I imagining it. Could bluegills possibly help us out with that threat too? Let's go Green and use our renewable resources more, The Gills that get our bait or get released will thank us. They're tired of those tricky artificials thingys. They want real food. Hey Brim Reaper,<br />
<br />
Here's a link for an article on how to do it. I saw it done in my back yard when I was a kid and it really worked great. You might also google worm fiddling and find other good info. The ESPN one is very good.

I have old book Lunker love nightcrawlers from Fishing Facts magazine. Wonderful book. Lot of nice bass and 'gills for me in the 1970's and 1980's! Large live nightcrawler tip on no. 6 hook, long light rod, and 4 lbs line and throw out then let nightcrawler do natural down to deep water to catch big old bass, walleye and monster bluegills!

Is there any fish out there that won't hit a properly fished worm or nightcrawler? Free for the digging, this has to be one of the all time great natural baits for so many fish.<br />

I have a small fridge from when my daughter was away at school I have it stuffed full of crawlers and garden worms. Every evening after a rain I spend an hour picking worms. About two more pickings i should have enough for the year. I find every fly, jig, and lure that i tip with a small piece of worm works better. I confess I am to cheap to spend 2.95$ for a dozen crawlers when I can pick them up for free.<br />

In Vermont we cannot trap or transport minnows with out a bait dealers tag. This law in its self could make a huge discussion. I hate it and think it quit senceless. I've been piling up grass clippings, coffee grounds (some or all? Starbucks save their grounds for people to take free), shredded paper, and fruit and veggie scraps out by the fence for 18 months or so. Wish I had some big trees so I could add dead leaves, but what I've got's working okay. Last fall I had a great haul on earthworms / night crawlers but the real impressive find was the grubs. Big, fat ones. Found a couple small ones the other day but hope to find a bunch of big ones as the year…

Big, fat ones. Found a couple small ones the other day but hope to find a bunch of big ones as the year progresses. Now that I've caught my first ever redear (on a fly rod no less) I'm gonna try for some big ones with big grubs. I'll try with flies or worms too, but I think big grubs would work great. growing up, dad used to make…tag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2009-05-19:2036984:Comment:373262009-05-19T20:16:56.374ZKiana Fitzpatrickhttps://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/Kiana
growing up, dad used to make us hunt our worms in the yard the night before, if we didn't find we didn't fish......living in an apt. complex now so that's out..LOL..but I never gave up worms....still love to use them, worm poop under the nails and all!!! LOL Tried crickets this year for the first time...surprisingly, while I am terrified of bugs, I guess the angler in me says "if it's good for the fish I'm touching it" LOL
