Jim Fisherman mag is ok but its a lot of salt water articles and I do very little saltwater fishing. Yes though I do read that mag once in a while and have liked some articles.

I currently subscribe to the Mid-Atlantic Fisherman and the In-Fisherman magazines. I think that almost all of the national publications have suffered somewhat due to economic woes . Advertising is on the increase, and magazine content is deminishing. Still, I would have to say that I have learned more from In-Fisherman articles than from other mags. The Mid-Atlantic Fisherman is written by fishermen and captains throughout the region and you are getting stories from anglers, not 'outdoor reporters'. Some outdoor writers have evolved into reporters who do most of their work and trips through guide services and develope stories around those experiences while giving literally free advertising to the service in trade for free trips. I have used guide services in the past, and have done stories about their skills and expertise. Some have offered me discounts, but most have not. Since 95% of my fishing is done by myself, family and friends, almost all of my articles have evolved over personal experience and research.<br />

The Panfish In-Sider is in it's first year at IF, and I look forward to many more in the future. Still, straight, hard-core 'bluegill only' articles are hard to come by with all the other 'money' species out there. Perhaps we can all pool together and when we see a good piece on gills and close kin let one another know where it's at so we can all read, learn and enjoy. I just got an offer I cant re…tag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2009-09-13:2036984:Comment:576562009-09-13T18:00:02.661ZJohn Sheehanhttps://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/JohnSheehan
I just got an offer I cant refuse for a Field and Stream subscription..$15 for 24 issues and a free gear bag w/shoulder straps, room for thermos etc, roomy inside and outside pockets or if no longer available a gift worth as much or more(I'll believe it when I see it)I thought it was a great deal and shows how the internet is hurting these mags.Some of the old standards may not be around much longer.Hope they have ice fishin' gills articles and more about gills .<br />

I'm a multi species guy and have a 20 year stack of In-Fisherman. Once upon a time, Fishing Facts was good, when they had North and South editions. Went down the tubes after is was sold to Ely advertising er uh I mean Midwest Outdoors. My other subscription is Musky Hunter.

Hey John...do you all have the New Jersey edition of the Fisherman magazine up your way? I currently write regularly for the Mid-Atlantic edition of the Fisherman, which is a weekly publication and in a newsprint format. Lot's of salt water stuff, being around the Chesapeake, but there are some very good articles on freshwater by some excellent writers. If you don't have them on your newstands then pm PM me your address and I can send you some copies of the Mid-Atlantic issues....you may wish…

'In Fisherman' is the only subscription I have.They seem to concentrate on catching, more than the 'Cult of Personality pro' of some lure companys funding like Bassmaster and some saturday morn fishin shows which often just put me back to sleep . I use to get 'Bassmaster' but I'm more into multi species than going into debt as a Bass fisherman doing local club tourneys... fun as it use to be.<br />

'In Fisherman' has disappointed me recently however with its thinner issues,and frequent pages of ads so I would love to see a multi species mag covering Northeast waters that is written with the intelligience of experienced Fisherman. Thanks for the update Rick. I…tag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2009-09-11:2036984:Comment:574722009-09-11T17:13:53.853ZTommy Wintonhttps://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/TommyWinton

I guess i would lean toward Field and Stream because of the fishing and hunting stories that they had in the magazines also. So when is someone going to make a Panfish magazine?

I like to read anything about fish.<br />
<br />
I've always been partian to In-Fisherman because of the scientific approach they always take. For the price, I always thought I got lots of cool ideas.<br />
<br />
I've always liked Field and Stream too when I want an article that brings me mentally to a spot I've never been.<br />
<br />
I think I like 'em all. :-)
