Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have a friend that lets my family fish his pond.
The problem is, he has no boats. Plus it is all
covered up with tree and bushes, so you can
not get a boat into it.
There is enough room to get around to fish
though. His ponds is a bluegill and crappie pond.
He just ask is to put the bass back in.
My question is what is everyones best bait to fish
from shore.
I have is small bluegill rubber bait that I use for bass
and I caught two nice bluegills with it. The bait is
2 1/2" long. I can't believe that they would go after it.
Would you use spoons, spinnerbaits, live bait with bobber,
or something else. I love to fish for bluegills but I just
have not fished for them from shore.

Vern, I always entertain a spoon in any fishing scenario....I would throw a 1/16 or 1/10oz spoon tipped with a crawler chunk.
Hi LaVern, I do quite a bit of shoreline fishing also, in areas that are known as "tough" on Bluegill (and others!).After much experimentation, nothing produces better than a slow sinking, quivering microspoon with a waxworm tipping. These little weighted willow blades are about an inch long, weigh around 1/32 oz, and come in outstanding bright color combinations (www.microspoons.com). Soon the company will also expand their "elite" model series spoon ,which features a tiny propeller up front of the rocking spoon -in recent days even the hidden hot summer panfish have had trouble resisting these spinner/spoon combos!! Just keep them near weeds ,let them do their own thing with a semi slack line on the drop, and set at any twitch!
I like to fish an 1/8 oz rfs tipped with a crawler hunk. Has produced well at the ponds I fish on shore with. Has enough weight to cast out. Try tipping with 2 char. gulp maggots for crappie.
Thank Rick, I will try this and the other ideas that other people have
given me. I just have one question. What is a rfs, I know it's something
that I should know but I draw a blank right now.
The famous Blue Fox Rattlin Flash spoons.
Thanks Rick, I have heard of those. I will go shopping tomorrow and
I will pick a couple of them up.
Thanks everyone for the ideas. I will try them all. This board is awesome,
everyone is so nice. I love reading this board. Thank to all again!!!
Just a split shot, orange spinner, and hook dragged along bottom slowly is what i use from the shore or dock.
I switch between waxworms and pieces of nightcrawler with a splitshot---Either dangled 2-3 feet under a small bobber.....or drug along the bottom if there isn't a whole lot to get hung up on. I'm constantly moving. I count to 20 or 30....if no hits, I move.
Vern, I did a little pond fishing when was living in Ky. I always went with Berkley Gulp and a small jig head with a slip float, to start out with. The Gulp I would try, would be Corn Gulp, Maggots, Nightcrawler. It come in various colors too! After I got a feel for the pond, I would try small crankbaits and roadrunners, beetle spins. Good luck!
