Well, I'm back. We, my better half and I have had some health issues. I still have a total knee surgery coming up, but we are doing pretty good. Been pretty busy taking care of each other mainly, which hasn't left room for any fishing. I haven't been any in 2023 and am in dire need. Hoping to go after knee surgery recovery. Been doing some jig tying. A bit and following many tyers on YouTube. Been trying my hand at the mustache minnow. I will include pictures from my phone...I will try to…

i'm just traveling around the southwest looking for places and others to fly fish for bluegills with and trade flies. Just finished deployment and I just need a break and time off so i'm going all over dont care where. Let me know of cool places I can fish for the day and by all means please join in and trade flies with me. I'm collecting flies and stories along the way.

The last few years have been a major rollercoaster ride for quite a few. Some may still be stuck on the crazy ride and unable to get off while managing to get wind of relieves. No matter what we've gone through, we're still thankful for the new year, in hope and in search of a greener pasture to gain a bit of respite.

However, it's saddening for me to announce a bit of heartbreaking news at the request of our member, Carl Hendrix. He's a funny, cheery, and wonderful fellow among the online discussions and in life. However, at 04:00 AM last night, due to complications with the IV insert in his wife's arm, his wife passed away.

I pray that his wife met up with his son in the glorious heavenly realm, sharing the past days with one another and bless those who are still in this temporary world while watching them. Let's lift our cups, fishing rods, and/or favorite tools to Carl. Always know we're here to listen, and lend you either a virtual or solid presence for you to be within your time of need.
Can't help but learn from discovering new lure designs that do welltag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2021-12-18:2036984:Topic:9132782021-12-18T11:17:48.997ZFrank J Harveyhttps://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/FrankJHarvey

I only fish waters where gas motors aren't allowed (except a private lake I've fished for 45 years). Peace and quiet - ahhhhh. But after years of buying out tackle shops, like many diehards on BBG, I went smaller, lighter and slower.

Lure design targets fish senses - those that detect vibration and the eyes that sees lure shape and action. Without writing a book on the subject, here are some lures I…

Lure design targets fish senses - those that detect vibration and the eyes that sees lure shape and action. Without writing a book on the subject, here are some lures I made that did very well for many species all of 2021:

French Fry stick segment/ tapered round tail

This little guy confirmed the multispecies attraction to the brightly colored thin tail:

bright mini-stick

Learned and confirmed:

Clear plastic lures catch fish as well as colored plastics.

Bright white and fluorescent colors do well when fish aren't in the mood or in weeds.

Mini stick lures on light jigs are excellent when wacky rigged or front hooked.

A forked tail does as well as a paddle tail.

I don't know if I ever posted these, but a couple of them worked well for bluegills and crappie.
