Not sure why there would be encouragement to kill them. Maybe the fish sampling for NJ currently ranks Greenies as vastly overpopulated or unwanted due to non-native status - I really am not sure, but someone else here might know.

Comment by John Sheehan on June 14, 2017 at 3:12pm: Only caught two Green Sunfish before this third .Rare fish in my part of New Jersey as far as my experience goes .New Jersey considers them invasive and dictates to kill them .I don't personally see the need for that so I let him go . I need to be convinced they are are really troublesome.
