Should have said a couple of times not several .I just tie directly to braid with a Palomer knot.I 'll try a leader ,thanks Allen.I am not catching huge cats small Bullheads to 14" and Channels up to 12# and White Catfish to 5#.

The Ugly Stick handles them.

I would put my money on the line getting tangled up in the pectoral fins, and getting cut by the serrations on the bone.

Stay with the braid for the mainline, but tie on a swivel, then a leader of mono that's weaker than the mainline.  If you're using 15# test mainline, got with a 12# test mono leader.  What kind of rig are you using for the cats?

Ya know Allen ,several times now after catching 3- 5 # Catfish that rolled as they came in I broke off on subsequent casts and hook sets.Is it the abrasive teeth in the roll ,the knife like pectoral spine cutting  or both these things that abraids the line so it breaks after a no pressure hook set?I am talking 15 #Power Pro Braid here not 6# mono! I wonder.

I'll put a quarter on a huge Catfish :)

Most likely on this body of water..........very big largemouth.........huge catfish........giant world record class bowfin or one of the big striped bass although they rarely venture into the shallow flast where we were.........they often stay in transition zones and the deepest areas of this river.............

WOW ! What are the most likely prospects for that stolen float that broke 15 # line?

Thanks Slip!  I'm not complaining a bit after losing at least one day to weather the last three weekends in a row........this bite was fun.........fish would not take the jigs trolled through the drop off........vertical jigging on top of them produced the majority of the takes..........fish were reaction striking and hitting hard! Same reason we caught so many nice largemouth on this trip......moving bait in moving water was deadly on the largemouth and a few small stripers..........I had 15 pound test on my telescopics and lost everything to a powerful break off mid trip...........never saw the float come back up! Hard to say what it was.........
