I've seen funeral ceremonies were baby saltwater sea turtles are release, and also heard of sea turtles released with a container of cremated remains that are swam out to sea then the container dissolves releasing the ashes out in the ocean.

Buddhists do it - not for funerals - but part of ritual.

I would be curious to know what religion use them in ceremonies LedHed!

I have seen two in my life in two close by waters I fish

That is a good size slider. I'll encounter these in a couple places I fish as well.

Non-natives here too, John. Like you said, coming from pet releases.

Would make a nice addition to someone's Koi pond Sonny.  There are lots of them in Fairmount's Lake Evans.  No John, they are not native to California, but we see a lot in our lakes and park ponds.  They originated in the lower Mississippi River area many years ago.

Some religions, here, release the turtles as part of a funeral ceremony - not good for local lakes.

It's in my crawdad pond right now Jeff - hope it doesn't eat them all up with the feeder fish..

Red eared Sliders are usually pet releases in New Jersey I believe. Native where you are?

That's a first for me to see caught on a jig!  Maybe that is what is making some of those nasty wounds on the fish..
