Best time for big Geneva gills would be in late August through Sept....thats when the giants are fairly predictable on the deep humps and flats of Geneva's abyss.
Thanks for friend accept. To answer your questions, there are some monster crappie at kinkaid, fish out of there tied state record last year. If you are member on crappie.com check out il section, look for post black monster, it will give you an idea. Lake Murphysboro, has good gill, pumpkin seed fishing, the are some shellcrackers, but harder to fish for. It is a nice quit lake. Carbondale res has a bluegill overrun, hurting bass population. I am going to hit it hard this spring. I have wanting to go to ky land or reelfoot this year. If you get down here look me up. If you like crappie fishing, you have to try Rend Lake. If you fish there, try along rt154 riprap, lots of sets.
Hey Greg... You can catch fish year round at Richmond Mill, but I actually like the fall. Oct and Nov. When Bruce and I fished there in October of 2009 we caught high numbers and about a dozen 2 lbers. We were there in May for a filming project for Allen Warren Outdoors Show this year and just about everybody got at least one 2 lber, except me. You can anticipate 30 to 60 gills a day, but the 3 to 6 pound bass will be in the way all the time, taking bluegill intended baits.
I just like the challenge of fishing in colder weather, and found that our techniques from my home waters adapted well to this amazing fishery. Plus, we got to get in on big chain pickerel and crappie as well, and I like the variety!
Greg
Those were caught last week before the rain. Ky Lake water level is 9 ft over summer pool. The beds I found last week are in 13ft of stained water now.
The north end of Ky is closed to recreational boating. That has never happened.
The main lake is dangerous now with floating debris and the current is brutal.
Greg I have a 17' Lund also I do not take my boat on the big pond to much cause I catch off shore and you never know when it will turn on you out there. Usually the summer time has the flattest water but the fish are way out (salmon and Trout) but the summer is when the big perch come in take a look at my pics and you will see what I'm talking about. In the fall theres pike and bass to be had and brown trout are in the harbors year round. However in sept you can start tangling with the big king salmon when they come in for their spawning run.Let me know exactly what your interested in going after and the time of year and I can give you a better idea of what you to need to do.
Yes there are some real quality gills in there if you take a look at Musky Mods page you will see alot of them. I wouldn't say all those fish are from the big G but alot of them are.
I have caught so many now though that I find it more rewarding to be able to share my experiences with pothers with the pics, except when i am in a tournament that is...;-)
I try to avoid using flash if possible on fish for that very reason. I agree sometimes it is hard to stop and take pics when the next cast is gonna catch me another fish haha :)
greg, I just use a cheapie, a canon powershot sd1100is digital point and shoot.
the main things I do to get good pics is
1. take lots of pics at different angles and distances so I have many to choose from
2. make use of photo editing software to sharpef, brighten and crop, etc...
I fished in Wisconson few years ago and I dont fish there since! I would like to fish Lake Geneva for big bluegills! Maybe first weekend of June because its free fishing weekend!
