I fished for trout alot in North Carolina. For a first timer I would recomend keeping it really simple. I have had alot of success on rooster tails. Buy a few different collors, be sure black is one of them with a few copper and a few silver, get some really good small swivels and cast away. I used to fish some smaller streams that were 10' to 15' wide and it made it hard to cast so I would use my 5' crappie rod with a little open face reel. I found that 6 to 8 lb. test was just small enough to not be seen yet strong enough to not break all the time on those rocks. I have caught browns, rainbows and brookies on this rig in all the different kind of trout waters. This isn't the "pure" way to fish for them but it shure is fun! Oh and have a firm grip on that rod cause when they hit that spinner it (and your heart) just may come flying out! Have fun!! Thanks ;)tag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2009-04-24:2036984:Comment:338512009-04-24T19:22:39.549ZJim Ghttp://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/JimG

Am just home from trout camp, in Penn.. Our search rig is a minnow on a red Octopus hook. Split shot as needed. When you find a "pod", where a dump of stocked fish are, you'll often catch 2-3 then they'll shut down. Time to switch offerings. Small spinner, jig/maggot, worm, etc.. Even smallest Rapala's can work. Hatchery formula trout bait good to have as secret weapon. steve b
