Travis Jackson catches the North Carolina Shellcracker Record 5/19/2008

Mrs. Jackson pulled her son away from his Sony Playstation that day in May three years ago and Travis soon landed the fish pictured in a farm pond in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. The fish measured 15 and 1/16 inches long and had a girth of 18 and 1/8 inches! The weight was certified @ a local Piggly Wiggly grocery store in nearby Rocky Mount. That's why I fish because you… Continue

To Greg: Some experimenting

Hey Greg,  I have been experimenting with different colors of my panfish baits, and came across a bag of what I call "Silver Minnow" color.

they are 1 1/2' and full of silver dye and silver glitter.   I'll be happy to send them to you if you e-mail me your postal address.  If it's not exactly what you want, then we can tweak it until we get it right.  Nick

Some advice

This is not an advertisement.  Hey folks.  I wanted to get some advice from you members concerning starting a small business.  I have been hand pouring and injection molding my own panfish plastics for 11 years now.  I'm getting close to retirement age, (If the government will let me), and I was thinking about marketing my plastic baits.  Although I do hand-pour bass baits, I see more of them on the store shelves, than I do quality panfish baits.  I produce 1" and 11/2" curl-tail grubs, and… Continue

Hey all, if anyone in TN, KY, AL, or GA ever needs any sort of help with your pond, whether it be weed control, fish stocking, an automatic feeder, an aeration system, or the best fish food in the industry, keep me in mind:

need help with hybrid bluegill

early last fall I stocked my small pond with hybrid bluegill. The pond is about 1/4 acre. I also put a hundred channel cat. The pond is full of crayfish, frogs and minnows. I have been feeding them every day. I took my fly rod to catch a couple to check their growth progress. I was really surprised at how much they have grown but I caught one that was covered with black specs. It looked like it was covered with pepper. Does anyone know what this might be? Any suggestions would be greatly… Continue

Bluegill Flies

I'd like to hear from Bluegill fly tyers.  There are so many patterns in books and on Web, but I can't believe that all are successful.  How about tyers in midwest that have proven favorites?

Pictures would be nice.

Creek Panfishin'

Not far from me is a small stream in southern Pennsylvania that has a reputation as a good smallmouth and trout water. It also has largemouths, crappies and suckers and carp. It is rich in Civil War era history, as much of the waters I fish are. On a beautiful clear afternoon, I tangled with the stream's abundance of panfish. To my pleasant surprise, I found a bunch of…
