I was fishing a western Illinois public strip pit and caught a big-for-me girl bluegill from the Fish Cat tube. l. I used a BPS 71/2 UL 4piece rod. (I think it is now discontinued). A 1/80 oz chart. / dk blue kiptail jig on a simple #8 jig hook I tied was tipped with a wax worm or salted shrimp. The reel is spooled with Cabela's Pro Line #4 mono. I have grown fond of this reasonable priced quality line . I had forgotten the camera so had to wait till I returned to the van for a picture. I saved this one and it weighed in at 1.164 on the digital. The fillets were large enough that a single gill was plenty for my evening meal. I have caught a few large gills but this was easily the thickest and only 10 1/4 inches.

EDIT to add the picture didn't come through. I'll check out my mistake
Iowa scouting triptag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2009-04-26:2036984:BlogPost:341072009-04-26T12:50:04.000ZMichael J. Searlhttp://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/MichaelJSearl

I and the wife took a trip into south Iowa in search of some new Bluegill waters. We were carefull to stay on track and not get hung up on a single good lake for the entire trip, but keep moving. The second lake we checked out turned out to be the best of the trip, and we plan to return at some point. We also found some…

The second lake we checked out turned out to be the best of the trip, and we plan to return at some point. We also found some lakes that appeared to be almost lifeless and most all of those were devoid of vegitation from grass carp.
We stayed in local motels 2 nights when the rippin winds finally drove us back to home. lol
We are certianly looking forward to a return trip in more favorable weather conditions. Ole MikeFloat tube modifications for bluegill fishingtag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2008-11-07:2036984:BlogPost:99422008-11-07T20:00:00.000ZMichael J. Searlhttp://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/MichaelJSearl

The float tube is a versitle tool for bluegill fishing as it comes from the factory. To make it more usefull for my use I have done some modifying. Having had a few of my valued spinning reels get dunked from sliding around on the tube, I set out to correct the problem with a simple rod holder. This holder keeps the rods in an upright position. The front holder is at a 45% angle to use for trolling. I also left one joint of it loose so I can angle it out to the side if I choose.
The PVC is thinwall 1 1/4". The stretch cord is (I think) 1/4" or slightly smaller.
The round foam piece is a piece of swimming pool play noodle.
The overall length can be altered to fit the location of "D" rings on your tube if a different model.
The 4 way fitting at one end should have been a T fitting, but I had this on hand and wanted to make use of it.
I'll appoligize in advance for hiding the text at the bottom of the photos.
I'm hoping the photos are rather self explanitory, but if there are any questions, please feel free to contact me and I'll do my best to help.
