Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Caught my presonal best largemouth (8 pounds) fly fishing form shore on a black woolly bugger. Now it's time to get out in the water and go after some big bluegill from my float tube!

Seems like it's getting worse out there Bob.

Not sure if they spawn twice - they take a beating.  Fish I caught today were mostly post spawn which is weird because the surface temp went back down to 68*F. Even found post spawn females over 35 FOW. These CNBG spawn all the way into September. I find fish in staging areas that are pre and post spawn.

Nice Sonny! Sounds like spawning time? Do you think the gills spawn twice during the spring/summer or just once, but at different times?

When I'm float tubing I usually stay inside the buoys....too many crazy jet skiers and boats!

What a pig! You're about a month behind Bob... One week back by the island - got two 12s, two 11.5s and over a dozen 11s. Stopped counting 10s, lol. Last day I fished we trolled the south side of the island and found big fish there too. Be Careful - longer kick - and there are way more idiots on the lake.

Thanks!

Jeff: Caught it using my 6-weight with an intermediate line. Same set-up I use for Bluegill, except for Bluegill I use a weighted fly and let it sink down in deeper water when I'm float tubing.

Wow Bob!  Big fish!  Did you use the same flyrod set-up that you use for Bluegill?
