Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This was the BEAST of the day. Even the 5WT had a tough time managing this one.

Thanks again for the comments Guys!

David- we had a pretty serious dry spell here as well until this Spring. Our rains have carried through July and August looks to be cooler and wetter than normal as well. Upside... all the lakes are above normal and the streams, creeks and rivers are running high. Downside... all the lakes are above normal and the streams, creeks and rivers are running high; and everything is off color.

Jim- I was using 5X tippet (I think) and the 2WT. They pummeled me... couldn't really do a thing with them. Tried all my angle tricks, tried to let them run and tucker out, no dice. They either bolted into the weeds or made for the nearest brush pile. Even thought my 8ft TFO 2WT is an awesome rod, it just didn't have the oomph for these dudes. The 5WT was fun as well though.

Those are great hybs!. I had to actually abandon my 2-pound test tactics and up it to 4 and 6 pound test to handle those in our favorite hybrid pond.  Just too much power in these fish!

YUP KEITH YA GOT A DYNOMITE SPOT THERE AND I HAD SOME GREAT PONDS HERE TO FISH TILL THE DRAUGHT LAST YEAR HIT HERE.  GREAT FISH HERE KEITH and I would proud as all get out if I had gotten it on the long rod. Ya know folks laugh at me for sometimes using a 6 weight , but the weeds I generally find myself fishing ya need the heavier weight to haul em outta the jungles . Sometime in the near future , THIS FALL , when it cools some here I'll be tossing 6 weight with crappie streamers , FFFFFFFFFFUN .....

These dudes were brawlers Bruce. They knew where every stickup, tree limb and line booger spot was located. Actually had to switch from the 2WT with 4lbs tippet to the 5WT with 10lbs tippet to prevent break offs and to confidently haul them out of their hidey holes.

Terrific hybrid!  I love the fight!

Thanks David... one of the best days I have had in a while. Most everything around here is still blown out and muddy from all the rain (NOT COMPLAINING THOUGH!!!) Caught these from a good friend's farm pond.
