Some of these males had really intense coloring as they're gearing up for the spawn.

Your right about that Sonny. Back when I fished the lakes in Michigan when I did catch some of them beauties I would through it in my livewell and release it into my pond. Just starting to see them now as they come up for dehydrated meal worms. I throw in a couple hands full a night. Bluegills love them too but love seeing the seeds they are truly things of beauty..
