Do you love big bluegill?
There must have been some kind of insect emergence going on tonight as fish were fairly active at the surface. I shallowed the pink Gulp waxie to about 8" under the float and got two nice gillcrackers. This is the best one from the pond this year, the other was in the 8.5'' range but didn't quite have the dynamics of this fish. Dad also caught a couple in the 8-8.5" range in tonight's 45 minute outing.

Thanks, Carl. This fish put up a great fight making a strong wide circle while diving deeper.
Adam;; real nice cracker there buddy;; and as long as they are active feeding;; go for it !!
Thanks fellas. This is pretty typical coloration for the season with these hybrids. These fish display some of the most drastic color changes throughout the season, especially the males during the spawn. Some individuals I catch turn a blue on top similar to a spawning male redear, but completely black on the ventral side during the spawn.
Very nice!
Nice going on the crackers! Is this the normal coloring of this fish in your pond or is it seasonal?
