Do you love big bluegill?
Fished a lake I haven't fished before on Monday. Crystal-clear water, could see bottom in 7 FOW. Fish were holding close of stands of weeds that would grow upwards off the bottom. Little clumps and patches here and there. I was doing some trolling while headed back to the launch to swap out some gear, when this 9" 'gill smacked my minnow lure.

Thanks. I'm surprised at how aggressive it was. Notice the size of the minnow crankbait it hit?
I will definitely have to return and try some other things. I might have to bring out a fly rod and try a hopper-dropper. I might have to stick with a small jig. Or use the tiny minnow crankbait that's been producing for several weeks now.
I *saw* several different species at this lake, all within feet of the surface, associated with the weed humps. Gill's, LMBs (didn't catch any), a couple Crappie, some nice Yellow Perch, and lots and lots of minnows, mostly Emerald Shiners. I also caught a couple Smallmouth, and a Rock Bass.
…nice michigan lunker
