Ok that info is great, here the ice only covers the lakes 1 or 2 years out of 10. So it won't do me alot of good. Do You sink brush piles in those areas during the summer months or are the brush piles there? Noticed you catch a lot of crappie and some nice gils. Looks too cold for a southerner. LOL

Oh...baits...some use minnows or waxies.
I mostly just use my hair jigs that I tie.
Totally Hot Everyday Jig or T.H.E. Jig for short...if it's wet...it's catchin fish!

Some guys do drop in trucks if they drive over areas that are not thick enough or over areas with springs or where there is current from a creek.
We start about Thanksgiving to the 1st week of Dec all the way to Easter.
We can get up to 3 foot of ice or more some years.12 inches holds a truck if the ice is solid clear ice.Snow creates weight and can cause water to rise on top making the ice weak. I had a guy step through 7 inches one time after a heavy snow fall.He was a big guy though.
We fish the deeper basins say 20-40 fow.

CrappieKeith, This facinates me. You drive out on the ice, drill a hole in the ice. How deep is the water where you are fishing? Bait? What time of the year do you start this and how long does it last? Has any one ever lost a truck to the ICE????????

This was late ice so I'd say about 2 foot of ice...we drive trucks on it too.

How thick is that ice on the lake? And they think us folks in the south are............
