John I catch some beautiful cats in the black water rivers I fish at home in Northeast North Carolina but you can go to the Santee Cooper Lakes and catch two or three hundred pounds of fish on rod n' reel in a day trip! What a great pull on medium action gear. So many nice marinas/boat rentals/guides etc. You can still get a full day with two people for under 250.00 with fish cleaning included....little mom and pop restaurants and good southern hospitality....

Hey John...I have fished with Capt Joe on several ocassions on the James. Our top 3 fish were 60, 58 and 53 pounds. The guy knows his stuff!

Hey John...thanks so much for the prayers and concern...everyone is alright, and we just have to be careful where we travel for the next many days and weeks with bridge damage in my rural county.

  • Jeffrey D. Abney

Well, I actually caught an old rusty raccoon trap with a worm. I have tried for weeks to get the picture on this website, but something in my computer won't send it. Anyway, I'm sure you know what a rusty raccoon trap would look like. I still claim top honors!

  • 10.5" RES Sharon

    My traps bigger, and wider.

  • dick tabbert

John that's really not necessary but I do enjoy music. I hope you can use them and if you have something you need made up let me know. Remember I'm still a beginner but I'll do my best. Enjoy my friend and GOOD FISHIN....

  • dick tabbert

Thanks John for the CD I know I will enjoy it see I've already herd you play so I see much enjoyment coming. Thank you and GOOD FISHIN....

  • Allen Morgan

If it's the one I think you're talking about, yes, it's one of mine.  Size 3 copper Colorado blade, various brass beads on the spinner shaft, and a treble hook that I dressed myself.  I've since worn most of the marabou off that hook.  I've tied a couple more; just need to put them on the spinner.

  • Frank Golder

Hey John, thanks for the comment on my picture...I spent many summers as a child in Ringwood...my aunt and uncle lived at the north end of Skyline Lakes.

Blue and silver Johnson Minnow - fed to the fish.
    Oh, the humanity!!
  • carl hendrix

hey John;;  you need quills in the 7 to 9 inch range buddy;; or longer if you can find them.  that way;; you can use a heavier jig;; or what ever  you want.  you want the quill to stand up straight in the  water;;  thing is about a quill float;;  if a fish comes up from underneath; and takes your bait;; the quil will LAY DOWN!!  set the hook!!   besides;; its just real fun to watch that quill;; shake; run a little;; then shoot down like a torpedo!!  theyre not real good for casting;;;and something you have to get use to!

  • Keith Ritter

Hey John, keep those little quills and add a cork or balsa body to give it some more buoyancy. It might make real neat little float.
  • dick tabbert

Welcome aboard John to fishing electronics. I was amazed at what my own personal finders could do but I had no idea what exactly they were capable of. Hopefully we can learn together so we can maximize our potential on our finders and fish catching abilities..

  • Gene Krohn

It is not really hard to do at all .  :)

  • dick tabbert

I'm glad there working for you john. hopefully that wind will lay down and better days a coming.

  • dick tabbert

Thanks John. Those pics bring back hilarious memories. I guess that blows my cover!
  • Bruce Tomaselli

Hi John. I landed 2 small browns and didn't photograph them. I'll have to take a camera with me next time. I caught some pretty stocked rainbows and browns in their fall colors a couple of trips ago. I have some on my cell phone that I could text to you.

    The Best,

    Bruce

  • David, aka, "McScruff"

    Thanks for the link John.
I've probably got 10-12 flutter spoons banging around, lures I've picked up among other lots.
If I'm able to use my canyak in the future, I'll be dragging them around some of the funnel points I've discovered.
I did catch a few on spoons at the end of last season, before the Great Knee Blowout.
  • David, aka, "McScruff"

I've got a bunch of those paper thin ones too, mostly Luhr Jensen "Manastees"
I'd like to try a three way swivel, with a Helldiver low, and a flutter spoon high.
Hopefully I can get the chance.
  • David, aka, "McScruff"

    Hellbender, of course.
    Got some of those, too.
In didn't even know what they were until I started researching.
  • John Foro

about an 1 1/2hr. ride but i do enjoy fishing it but normally can't get anybody around me to take the trip...caught some nice gills there and you can keep bass which are usually around the gills too.

  • dick tabbert

Hey John, do you have a link to the walleye page
  • JWinpisinger

John, looks like you had a great day o' fishin. I'm still struggling with the freshwater catch. I can relate to you saying that you caught a 'dink' bass. but the lil bass I caught a couple of weeks ago, could be considered bait. lol This day you had, alone beets the very best day I've ever had on freshwater. Thanks for all of the pics and info.

  • Greg Sheehan

    Beautiful Bass, what a spot!
  • JWinpisinger

That striper was caught near the CBBT (Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel), fishing live eel off of a boat and near the pylon structures. We also caught another that was 54 1/2 lbs. That is the one my brother in law is holding in the pic. The one that I am holding was 34 lbs. I have yet to catch any freshwater stripers. I hope to do so soon though.

  • Jim Gronaw

Hey John...I am not involved in this huge, mega-outdoor show, but I did attend it on Monday with some friends. Likely the biggest on the East Coast, with 20,000 attending each day for about 10-days. I hung out at the fishing arena and bought a few things. Ate at Cracker Barrel on the way home.

I am about 75 miles due south from Harrisburg.

  • Jimmy

    thak you,jimmy.

Hey John, I haven't done much fishing at all so far this year as I've had some other stuff going on. Hopefully I will find the time here real soon to fish. Hope you are catching the big ones.

  • JWinpisinger

Hi John, I liked what I read about the squirrel tail jigs. Do you tie those yourself or can they be found on the market. I don't believe I have ever seen them before.

  • john
