The top fin , in the front, was like a crappie, the rays were fewer and farther apart and to the rear , the rays closer and also reminded me of a crappie's dorsal fin, but much larger of course.
all we had was a cel cam for the pics and of course i take my old Moto razr to the lake as to avoid ruining a costly smart phone. The old cel had 1.3 mpixel cam so considering the fish I am pulling out of that lake( 2 11 plus inch gills and a 12.25 inch in 2 trips and Cindy, my wife caught an8 lb largemouth bass , her 3rd over 6 lb this yr) I tell ya , 5this lake seethes with all manner of huge fish and its 80 acres up to 70 ft deep ( old strip minbe for coal). I caught a 22 and 28 lb channel cat back to back the first time I fished it and had the same luck since.
Thanks for the help and maybe description will help.
Again thanks for your welcome last night, Further about Burnt Mills Lake. I really don't know all the stats on the lake but it is such a beautiful body of water. My fishing buddy, who is not into computers, and I have talked about the Norfolk Lakes in Suffolk, Va. for some time and finally went twice in late May. We both are primarily kayak paddlers and have fished there for Bluegills by fly fishing. We did fairly good on both trips, nothing real big, but very enjoyable as in fun. we probably paddled a couple of miles up the lake and only saw one house. I'd say it is secluded!. However, I see on Google Earth that there are more homes further up the lake.
I hope this helps fill your request for info, if not just let me know how I may help.
Jim,some of those sunnies(the one on top and others)had a diffrent look to them. Some of them had a red marking on the back part of their eyeball??We have redears but their red mark is by the earflap.
Be careful in all that stuff Jim and maybe this is the last big one of the season.....Ten day forecast doesn't look too bad if you believe meteorologists can actually predict that far in the future...LOL
As soon as you mentioned them, I hit on google. Little pollywog baits; at last that's how Its
I'd describe them. They don't look like much, I gotta confess.
What is it about them that you like?
How did you fish them?
I hope you don't mind the questions Jim, on the Poly Wogz baits - but I reckon of you like them like that, they have something going. If they will give worms a run for their money, well...
I have a ton of twist tail grubs, paddle tail Slider grubs, tentacled tubes and grubs... and the fish tend to give them a pass. It not that they won't bite them, but its not like they trip over themselves bite them either. I experiment with them, but I always have a gov of worms handy, too.
Nevertheless, I can't escape the notion that somewhere out there is a
soft bait, be it plastic or bio-based, the fish will actually prefer.
The full weight of human achievement at out fingertips, and we can't improve on the lowly earth worm? It boggles my mind.
Anyway, when you run the jigs beneath the float, are they rigged slip fashion or clipped fast to the line?
Hang in there Jim.....hope all is well for you folks up there.....I turned on the CBS evening news tonight and it started with snowfall totals from Winter Storm Pax and Westminster made the cut at more than 16" and counting.........And there is actually people that enjoy this stuff?.....I'll never be able to relate....give me triple digit heat index any day......We'll have to look back on this storm while fishing this summer......I should have known back in late October when we were met with pretty brutal conditions that weekend during your visit....Go Figure!
HEY JIM , JEFFREY, SLEEPY, AND ALL THE REST OF YOU EASTCOASTERS , GOOD LUCK WITH THIS STORM AND STAY SAFE AND WARM !!!!!!!! GUESS IT APPLIES TO DOWN EAST FOLKS TOO !!!!!!! NEVER SEEM A WINTER LIKE THIS ONE BEFORE, AS FAR AS COLD AND SNOW TOGETHER GOES....... I LOVE WINTER , BUT WITH THE COLD THIS YEAR IT'S TERRIBLE .......
Hi Jim Just joined this site in hopes of finding some places to fish. I live in Severn Md just south of the airport. 71 USN retired and hoping for some insight on local ponds/lakes public or private that would an allow an old geezer access and to keep a couple of eating fish. Bass/Bluefill/Catfish all accepted (lol). Hope to hear from you
Thanks Jim for the thoughts......we made out o.k. on this one as we ended up just 25 miles west of the eye wall as it passed over Kill Devil Hills.....never lost power either so we consider ourselves fortunate as our close neighbors on the Outer Banks pay a big price for living on barrier islands. It will take a few days to realize the impact on the rivers and sounds but I feel like we may have escaped the big marsh turn over that traditionally takes a toll on our fish populations. Fingers crossed until I get back out this weekend to see........
Hey bud I don't get to go as much as I like but I haven't ever caught as many fish in my life ever he has taught me a lot and I really enjoy going with him
Hey Jim I forgot to ask about how you thought of my jigs. I dont come on this site anymore so if you can email me I'd appreciate it. Thanks again slabjiggies82@Gmail.com
Hey Jim
Beautiful big P-SeedGills!!! Been away for awhile and glad to be back! Been sick but hope to get out this weekend and if lucky will try to post some pics! Love all your great info and In Fisherman tips and pics!!!!
Welcome Jim to fishing electronics. I put this group together to help understand our electronics. Our electronics do so much and are so underutilized cause most of us don't know just exactly what they can do and what we can achieve once we learn that learning curve. I have found out the more we use our finder the more it becomes second nature. Welcome Jim please feel free to share. GOOD FISHIN....
hi, on the picture of the nice gills you caught in a pond in august you mentioned it was a public pond just south into maryland.....can you tell me where abouts. i visit my sister on the southern border of pa and maryland, warfordsburg near hancock md. is that anywhere near warfordsburg or hancock md.?
Jim, when I pull up my friends list you are on it. I don' t know what I could be doing wrong. Maybe you can shed some light on the situation. I am not the most tech savvy.
Do grass shrimp inhabit any body of water or state or do they live only in brackish waters in the coastal states? I was wondering if we could possibly have any here in Arkansas?
I was on the way to one of my favorite fishing holes a few years ago and I saw a couple of guys dip netting a tiny ditch along the road. It was really just a trickle but it was full of weeds and moss. They could have been netting shiners but I think they were after grass shrimp. I did not stop to ask cause I had fishing on the brain. I had always heard about them. Do you any of you tip jigs with them? If so, what time of year is best to try them out?
I received your package today my friend. Thank you very much for the surprise....I'll get some picks up of everything I've gotten from you all as soon as I can figure out how photo bucket works and can down load my camera....don't know if it's me or this ancient lap top but having some difficulties all around with this thing....thank you again for the surprise and will see what I can catch with them very soon. Eric
Jim!-Those jigs you made and gave me look excellent! Cant wait for some open water to give them a workout .Thanks very much for your kindness and generosity my friend!
Hey!. We can talk fishing anytime. I chase the gills non stop on my flyrod. I've got exceptional fishing around here. I love them and take pictures when I can.
Hey Jim I decided before my senior year of high school I'd make the really really difficult decision to not come on the site for a while. I had a lot of work to do between work and school and college applications that I just needed to focus on that stuff for a while. I still got out and fished a bit but I've really missed seeing your guys catches and most of all talking fishing with all of the extremely knowledgable people on the site.
Wow, thanks Jim. Great new spots to check out. I really appreciate the tips. Hope to see you along the way one of these days. Once school lets out in June I'm really looking forward to a road trip or two to investigate some of these honey holes.
