MrTabbert, thanks for the information, as I do love to bream fish most of all. I'm in the process of learning to tye flies,as fly fishing is my first love and also my late father,I have his 1946 union hardware bamboo rod. To give you a little history of me, I had kidney failure about 6 months ago and I'm in a nursing home in Marion, Al. learning to walk again, and by spring I should be up and walking again.  Many thanks, George

  • George Auburtin

I fish with a couple of rods I have had for many years, nothing fancy, in fact some of them came from the local flea market.Once I paid more for the line than I paid for the rod and reel. I have really enjoyed reading this site. Thanks for the warm welcome. Thanks, George

    Thanks Dick! I sure will.

  • Jim Dillow

Thanks for the welcome. My wife and I both love to fish for bluegills. Actually we just like to fish but gills are our favorite. We have a fishing organization called FishinPals and hold several events each year (past 11 years) and bluegills are generally the target fish. We have kids of all ages (3 to 90) attend and they have fun catching the bluegill. Plan on visiting the site often. Found out about the site sometime ago while searching out big bluegills on goggle.

  • Leo Nguyen

Nice one Dick! Thanks. Will check it out to see if they have the Android version.

  • David, aka, "McScruff"

Thanks for the video link Dick. Ive been in contact with Paul Halter a little and am impressed each day with his 'My Fishing Advisor' app.

If you have a smart phone you should get it.

  • Derek Hawes

Thanks Dick, like many people I fish for almost any fish I can, but I love catching big bluegills and nothing tastes better in the pan.

  • edward a. phillips

Dick: are you in St.Louis ?

  • Leo Nguyen

Dick, that is freaking large sample population to grow your worms. You'll have a massive colony real soon. Give me a call or I'll message you with good details.

Dick, thanks for the welcome to the site.  Plan to try the fly rod for gills this spring and summer...life is not just about trout (or so my wife tells me).  Need to learn some effective patterns, though.

Hi Dick   Sorry that it has taken me so long to get my thank you out for such a nice wecome post that you sent. I can see that there is a lot of info. on this site. Now I just have to learn how to get to all of it. I have never belonged to a site b/4 so there is a lot to be learned. I live in Two Rivers, Wi. and I don't fish lake Mi. I just fish  our smaller inland lakes. I sometimes go to Green Bay or Lake Winnebago I fish mainly forBG and other pan fish. As per your post I have tried the chat site but to  no avail must be doing something wrong. Again thank you for the welcome Jim

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am an avid bluegill fisherman, I even have a tattoo of a bluegill on my arm. I fish for them because they're fun to catch and they taste fantastic! I accidently found this site and I figured what the heck. I like to read about what guys are using, methods and their thoughts. Anything to help me improve my fishing experience is a bonus for me. So, thank you again and I look foward to browsing this site, and helping out (if I can) other fellow big bluegill fishermen.

  • Cory Earhart

Thanks this looks like a great site :)

  • James E. Sampson

Yeah Dick, my gills are starting to feed again too. weather is nice again, and i cannot wait until i can get on the water. I just don't know when that will be.  Working all week and planting potatoes this week end. busy busy busy.

  • Jack Crayon

Hey Dick, thanks for the welcome.  I'll hit the field for the first time in 2012 this weekend and I'm determined to bring back something worth bragging about to the group.  At the very least, I need a profile photo worth posting.

I'll be hitting Lake Perris in southern California.  The bite hasn't really turned on yet, but I'm hoping the hot weather expected the next couple of days will kick start things to coincide with my first outing.

That's awesome! Keep me updated of your progress weekly so we can tackle any issue before the hotel becomes the death row. Make sure to keep them close to 86°F if you can. Don't exceed more than 89 or they will die one by one, or en mass.

I'm getting my stuff from Cabela's today. I also wanted to try out a few different lines. I'm getting the hi-vis neon green Sufix 832 6lb/2lbdia for my 5'6" ultra light rod and some hi-vis yellow Power Pro 8lb/1lbdia for my 7' med light rod. I have my old poles passing down to my girl that I'm trying Spiderwire 10lb/2lbdia on.

I've only been using my old poles with the Spiderwire and Holy Smokes can that cast far! I really liked it a lot compared to my old mono I had on there. It is not exactly wind friendly though. I could still cast it super far, but the line staying on top with a bobber let the wind catch it and make it impossible to use more than 2 poles without getting all in each other's way.

The only other line I would have liked to try would be the Firewire Crystal 6lb/2lbdia line, but my brother has some on his lines I could probably swap poles with him for a day to check it out.

I'll probably try out the new equipment tonight for a little bit and really get a nice long look at it over this weekend. I can let you know what I think of them if you want?

  • Gary D. Higgins

Thanks. In just the small amount of time I've browsed so far, it seems like a great site!

  • Dan Bernethy

Thanks, glad I found your site. We moved into a new home, there are 5 or 6 ponds within 2 blocks of our home. One is literally in our back yard. Lots of bluegill, but mostly pretty small. I've caught one over 10". We fish almost every night and catch something. Glad to be here, looks like a great resource. I'm very new to fishing.

  • Jim Gronaw

Hey Dick...looks like you really slayed em this weekend! Crappies, gills, perch...and all of them looked to be great eating sized fish as well!

Great job! And you are a great ambassador of this site. Thanks so much for your involvement in BBG!

  • Scott Chapman

Thanks Dick, look forward to talking big gills.  I am a big ice fisherman and will be spending more time during open water chasing gills.

  • Ronnie M.

Thanks for the warm welcome to bigbluegill.com. I look forward to spending some time talking and sharing fishing skills and all the how to's about fishing. I am a member on a few different boards and I go by the name StumpHunter spelled a little different on each site (STUMP HUNTER - Crappie.com) (StumpHunter - JigCraft) (stumphunter - FAOL) and so on. I do enjoy the sport of fishing and tying. The way I found your great site is I'm am a member on Crappie.com and thought that there may be a bluegill.com and ran a search, wow I found this site and I am happy to be a member here now.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Ronnie

Not really a taxidermist as I only do as a hobby. When I say my customers, I mean insurance customers as I own an Insurance Agency. Niles is very close to the Indiana border. I am very close to the Notre Dame University but I'm a diehard Michigan fan....(Wings, Pistons, Lions, Tigers too)

  • Doc Parker

Thanks for the warm welcome Dick! This is a great thing to have going on! I've been fishing for 58 years now and never didn't love it! I am an artist that sculpts in the summer with a chainsaw. I do a lot of fish and used to be an amateur taxidermist( 35 years ago) and absolutely love to depict fish in my works. I am elated to get to meet others who share my love for panfish and the outdoors! Thanks again, Ted( Doc) Parker

  • Leo Nguyen

Dick, pretty easy. Windows 7 use a different drivers and software updates for your camera and printers. Let me know your camera, as well as your printer, make and model. I'll search the company's software downloads for you. Remember,  you're running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits edition. Software update for the camera and printer must match, or at least, come close to. The next level of compatibility for software is Either Windows Vista 32 bits or Windows XP Pro 32 bits edition.

  • Leo Nguyen

Here are the download pages for your devices:

    Printer Brother MFC-J825DW

    * Make sure to select the Windows 7 32 bit. Select English, and click Search.

    * Click on the "Download & Information" under the header of "Full Driver & Software Package". That's your ultimate package for updated software for printing and configuring your printer.

Since you can grab the photos from your camera, you need to install your printer's software for printing purposes. Make sure to plug  your printer power and USB cable in, turn it on, before you start to install the software.

  • Leo Nguyen

Try to uninstall the older version off first Dick. Try to uninstall the version you have now, download the 32bit first, and reinstall.

  • thomas c.golson

    thanks Dick l

  • James Richard Hansen

    Hey Cousin !

When we going fishing? Been thinking about bringing AJ out to fish in your pond.

  • Doc Parker

You're the only one on my friends list! Hahaha, Hey! I really liked the bugs you made.I don't understand the terminology about the tools, but they look like fish catchin bugs!!

  • Leo Nguyen

Woah! They chewed through the nylon mesh? They must have been pretty hungry, searching for food. Looks like you need to find some major containers for those waxies. Welcome to the fun of raising waxies. You will have plenty of fun time feeding waxies, earthworms, and possibly mealworms to you own fish real soon. Great job Dick. Make sure to keep those waxies under control and containment.
  • Ray J. Hall

Thank you I,ve been looking for a site like this, i love fishing for blue gills and brim of all kinds, i've been drop shoting for bluegills its been working with the heat were having,

  • Greg McWilliams

Dick You are FLYROD HOOKED I BELIEVE!!!!!!!! It will cast my FINGERNAIL SPOONS, but is better suited for smaller flies, bead heads , bead chained etc.......

  • Leo Nguyen

Hey Dick. Those waxies will eat each other up when there are no food supply. It happened to me as well. Lost nearly 3/4 of my population when I was away for a week as well. After all they are full of proteins. So, they will eat on each other when they're hungry..just like us.

As for the printer, just try to print the photo by itself first. If the printer allows you to print, great. I can teach you to use the default Windows 7 Fax and Picture Viewer to print multiple photos on one 8.5"x11" sheet of photo paper. However, we need to get the printer running. I'm free today. Give me a buzz when you are ready.

  • Leo Nguyen

Roger. Will await for your call. In the mean time, make sure to put all photos into one single folder that you can have access to. Once the photos are all in one folder, you can use Windows 7 Fax and Photo Viewer to select multiple photos for a print job, on any size paper.
