I have a 3/4 acre pond. The grandkids fish in it I prefer inland lakes. My pond is stocked with catfish, hybred bluegills, largemouth bass. I put in 6 hybred stripper in it to see what they would do. I put in about 12 crappies 12 sunfish and 2 perch. The grandkids enjoy it as do a few kids in the area.

    Hello Dick,

Nice to see another Buckeye on this site !

Have you got into any bluegill this spring ?

I have not ...unfortunately, But I have drifted the shore line of lake Erie and caught some nice Smallmouth Bass, using my fly rod and tube jigs..

Hi Dick, Welcome and enjoy the site.  I don't get out fishing much anymore, but I go when my schedule allows it.  I like to catch big bluegills, but I am a big perch fisherman at heart!  I live in S.E. mi.  I do winter and summer fishing on the lakes near my home.  I live near Devils Lake, Mi.
  • DON PATTON

    Dick,

Best of luck at Bankers lake!

Fishing with the fly rod is really enjoyable. Its a lot of fun to make that "perfect cast" and to catch a nice size panfish on a light wt. fly rod.

    Hi Dick,

I live in Rochester Hills Michigan and have heard about the Irish Hills but never fished there. I recently bought a folding boat that fits on my car roof so I'm pretty mobile and always looking for a better place to fish.

I've been fishing the Walpole Island Indian Reservation for many years but the younger members of the tribe are not as friendly as their elders so, like I said, I'm looking to find calmer waters.

Hi Dick, and thanks for the welcome to BB...I'm from Van Wert, OH not to far from you, but lots less water. I do a lot of farm pond fishing and most all with a fly rod if I can help it.
Looking forward to being on the site.

    Dick,

Went out mid-morning with the ultralight and a beetlespin...caught 6 but not much size.  They have moved off the beds down here and headed for deeper water.  I did catch a couple of nice bass, maybe a pound each or so...fun none the less.  Raining cats and dogs at the moment, wonder if it's ever going to end?

the dynamic of this site only works when people like you carry such a consistently positive attitude. I hope you spend as much time here as possible. And when you get to feeling better perhaps you can come this way.
  • Tim

Thanks for the welcome message Dick. I am assuming the 2 fish in my pic are hybrid gill/green sunfish? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks again!

Thank you much for the welcome. I have just started back fishing for panfish after a 30 year haitus. Being I can only make it to saltwater once a month I realized how much fun I was missing out by not throwing in fresh water here by the house. Picked up a flyrod June 1st and have had as much fun catching these bluegills, Redears, and Greenies as a speckled trout or redfish. My wife has also started fly fishing for these lil monsters. Funny how a 12" Redear can change one's whole life.

Hi, wanna be carver,  Did not get to do much fishin' this year - windy weather, other dog-boarding duties, etc..  May still get out with my son, Pat, to a nice farm pond nearby.

If, like most beginning carvers, you have sharpening challenges, let me know (with mailing address) and I will send you a copy of my book, "On the Cutting Edge, a Wood Carvers Guide to Tool Sharpening".  Website is:  http://lwmose0.tripod.com/otceBOOK.htm .  Book is described within website.

Just wanted to tell you our shrimp pond almost did a turnover due to the hot weather, and the amount of algae in it. I think we finally got it fixed before it was too late. Lost about 3 dozen big ones. Tomorrow morning I'll go down early and see if pumping water through all day helped.
  • Larry Melvin

    Thanks for the welcome Dick.....
  • ROy T. Gray

Thanks for the welcome Dick! I'm new to Bluegills but not to fishing. I'll be busy doing a bunch of reading and I'll post pictures as I learn!
  • 10.5" RES Sharon

Thanks dick. I'm slowing reading all the attached literature whenever I can.
  • Sam k.

thank you dick for the great welcome. I have a question how do you post pictures and videos?
  • 10.5" RES Sharon

Glad you had a good time. We drained the shrimp pond until we could see the bottom and there wasn't one shrimp left. Guess between the algae, lack of oxygen, turtles, snakes,  and lack of water, we lost them all. But, we learned a lot and will try again next year.
