Hey Charles good for you on the fly fishing gig. I have not gotten too familiar with it as of yet, but it sounds like a lot of fun!
Centennial Park Lake is near Columbia off of route 108, not too far from you. I fished there years ago and smashed 8 to 10 inch gills on bait. I hear there is a resurging population of quality gills along with some nice 12 inch class crappie as well. You might want to look into it as it has good access and boat rentals if you need them. Good Luck! Jim
I haven't done Loch Raven for many years but I understand it to be a good crappie and white perch lake. Used to be fabulous for bass and northern pike back in the late 60's thru the 80's. Call Loch Raven Fishing Center and they can give you up to the minute scoop.
Piney Run, where I work as a maintenance man, is an outstanding all-round fishery but has a hydrilla issue in the summer that makes fishing tough. Great in March, April, May and early June for big gills, crappies, yellow perch and some big bass. Numerous photos on my page are of big fish we have caught there.
