when you'r on turn up your chat volume. this is what you do, go to the top of the page, click chat on the right (its on the menue bar) then when you get there put up the volume which is next to the smilie face, and the computer volume because the beep is very soft. this is because if someone trys to talk to you the chat volume is on mute you wont know they are there. if you want to talk to someon just copy and paste this message.

You said you "had" a 12.5 ? Wow ! That's a free replica if you would of kept it my friend!! Right now I'm starting with an 11-inch or better Bluegill for a free replica. I will do one or two fish in one size at half inch increments until the last biggest fish can't be beat.
there will be exceptions. Deliver the fish to me, I will make a mold of the fish and from the mold you get a replica. Free! How great is that!
  • Dale Fortin

that Shellcracker came out of the Savannah River. In a place called Deep Step. It is locally famous for it's great panfishing.
  • JIM SIMKINS

I always use crickets on my jigs.
  • Patrick "Bullworm" Olson

Jim, thanks for the advise! I will start rallying the troops! You are absolutely right, I need more numbers.
  • Bluegillboogiegal

Well Jim, I have no idea what he's been telling ya'll but here it comes from the horses mouth. When our youngest daughter was about six, the local bass club had an annual youth fishing tournament. She won the two years she entered. The first year, we were both there with her to bait and unhook. She competed against about a hundred kids with all species allowed. She had over 5 lbs of gills at weigh in. All of them about three fingers wide. The next year, he had to work. It was just my daughter and me. Over 6 lbs, first place again. More than a twenty percent gain without the dead weight in the way. Does that answer your question?

I think the bass club kept the tournament quiet the next year. I don't think they tried to ban girls or anything, just forgot to let them know.

Jim, I like the comment on the gil and red ear , although they were actually caught the end of Sept., I still haven't givin up fly fishing for them. But comment like that from a world renowned Sports Writer such as your self, is a honor to recieve.Been reading up on you and am going to take a look at your Gronaw River Killers and adapt them in fly form. The Rocker is a sports writer. Skinard On Dude.
  • Greg McWilliams

Hi Jim I have a question. As you probably noticed I am working on my favorite flies album. I was looking at the cricket I put up today and it had a 5 star rating, so that got me to looking at some of my other pics. The flies that recieve a rating are flies I wouldn't have expected a rating for. What is the criteria for a rating?
Back to fishing they have stocked 3100 lbs of trout in my favorite blue gill lake, making gill fishing tough. But in the evening with the bug hatches here, If you see something rising could be gill, trout and or crappie. Makes for fun fishing with size 12 soft hackle. Take Care and keep a tight line on those monster up north.
  • John Sheehan

Jim-The Crappie fishing in NE NJersey yeterday was OUTRAGEOUS!They were all only 9-11 inches but countless numbers caught by three of us.Plain bucktails and marabou jigs .We didnt even tip with twister tails let alone bait and it was an onslaught like the three of us never saw in our lives before!
  • Steve Fleckenstein

Jim,I live and do all my fishing in Northwest PA.
  • John Sheehan

Let me know how it goes Jim.I might try Sheppards lake tomorrow to see whats being offered.Would like to catch Crappie ,Bluegill ,Bass and Pickerel and hopefully trout.

  • Greg McWilliams

Jim, When you fish your jigs , do you use corks, slip corks or tight line. Walk me thru this not sure I can feel these on a spinning rod. Haven't started using it yet. This might be a good teaching experiance for everone on BBG. 73 here today and forcasting snow on Tuesday.
  • Greg McWilliams

Jim Thanks for that. Spinning rod might come out as the water cools on down. Had to break out battery operated socks yesterday, even tho it was in the 70's. Love Indian Summer
  • John Sheehan

Hey Jim- You're gettin great gills. Can you suggest what scale I should buy to weigh my panfish with!?
  • Greg McWilliams

Greetings Jim, I have got some 1/124 oz. jigs and some new flashabou, in black and chartrues, Sparkbugs are going to have a new look. The chartrues is floresent. It looks like I will have time to tie, I am at a balmy 9 degrees this morning all ponds are completely covered with ice and a lot of ice on the bigger empoundments. But it looks like I am warm compared to northern bluegill brothers. Their season is just starting I am waiting for thaw.
    Greg
Oh yes when you target the yellow perch what depth, and cover do you target.
  • Greg McWilliams

Jim, Flies were sent out this afternoon, I only tie for friends and myself. My one request is a report on how they work or don't work. Hope you enjoy.
  • Greg McWilliams

I would help you with the snow thing, but one thing that has helped me thru things like snow is "GOD put it there for a reason and HE will remove it" ( insert smillie face here)
  • Dale Fortin

Just trying to figure out what the heck this "gift" this is...
  • Rudy Reynosa (True Shot)

that trout was only a pound but they get much bigger. The biggest one I ever cought was a ten pound rainbow.
  • Patrick "Bullworm" Olson

Well Jim...there is not much you can do. I believe the fish here are conditioned to extreme cold. -15 will be a warm spell up here, come Feburary! It would a good time to tie some hair jigs! I have been practicing my fly tying skills during this -40 at night business! It is possible to catch fish when it is that cold out! The question lies with how well you can handle it...LOL! I would get a same collection of ice jigs and Gulp! waxies and head for the deep weedline edge!
  • Frosch

Jim, you have a great photo album. I just spent the last 10 minutes going through it! Very impressive fish you got there
