    A little poem:

Here I sit with a broken heart.
Two boats in the yard, and neither will start.

Actually, the pontoon is a work in progress.(very little progress I might note) The little boat that I bragged on so heavily, let me down the other day on just the second trip to the water. I don't think it is anything serious, but it isn't firing. I gotta do some troubleshooting before I start throwing money at it. :-/

Hi guys! Fort Myers here. Posted my first bluegill catch last weekend, errrrr, I mean mayan cichlid. Bassandgrass helped my ID. I'm mostly a inshore guy, but have ponds in my backyard. Never fished it in the 6 years I've lived here. Caught my first Bluegill Monday night and didn't have a camera.

After fighting the snooks and reds, it's a nice alternative to fight on UL tackle with 4 lb line.
  • Tommy Winton

Yeah Stone i got tired of fishing snook and returned to my old ways. Bluegill fishing!
  • Tommy Winton

Heys guys have the cold weather turned on the gills for you? Let me know how the cold water has effected your fishing.

Good gills caught on the flyrod on Okeechobee.  I've been having some good luck lately. Nice fat bluegill being caught.

Mike, I'm hoping some of this rain we've been getting will bring some of our ponds and small lakes back up, I miss fishing them!

I'll be fishing the south end of Lake George this weekend!

  • Steve Totten

Any one here from Central Florida?  I'm in Lakeland, fish the local lakes and phosphate pits as well as local streams.

  • Lee

Hi Steve, I live here in Central Florida Bassville Park ( Tavares/Leesburg area ) I'm a 100% flyfisher and do most my fishing in the Ocala National Forest lakes and stream along with trips up to the Suwannee and Santa Fe Rivers. Ocassionaly I do a little inshore fishing too. I've been down your way a few times fishing the Teneroc Management area, interesting.

  • Steve Totten

Other than the Copper nose BG, crappie, tilapia,  which other panfish do we have in FL?  I have caught some I was not sure of.  When  I moved to FL in 1999 I started fly fishing in salt water so I'm pretty new to what is here in the freshwater side of things.  In Michigan I used to catch lots of BG, SMB, Sunfish, perch, carp, LMB, alll the trout, lots of salmon,  most of them on fly tackle.  I even enjoy catching rough fish on fly.

  • Steve Totten

Thanks Mike,  Are the rock bass here the same as the ones in MI?  They grow big in the great frozen, they must get huge here.  I thought flyers were from setting the hook too hard on small gills.  The Red Breast and Sunfish are different animals?   I have learned a lot in just a short time on this site but still don't know much about the f/w fish.

  • Steve Totten

Here is one of the northern variety from last year.

  • Steve Totten

Some of the cover along shore,  most of the fish were in the brush

  • Anthony Keith Stainback

New member to Florida Gillers. I live in Lakeland area and love to panfish. It is pretty cool to be able to get local information from others who enjoy the same type fishing.

  • Tim Roberts

I absolutely enjoy hooking up a big bluegill on my Sage 3 wt rod. The bluegills I catch on Lake Okeechobee this time of year bend my flyrod in half. Thats what I call one of life's simple pleasures.

  • Justin

anyone in florida fishing gills on a fly rod what are you having luck on
  • Lee

Justin I'm stilling catching a lot of them on foam top water poppers. If I cant get them to take that I use a bead head wooly bugger in a chartreus/black combo.

  • Justin

thanks for the info im useing spiders but seem to get nothing i will try the wooly thanks again
  • Kevin
