Wanaque and Ramapo rivers were stocked yesterday .Might go Trout stream fishing Monday .Let you know if I catch any .In the Wanaque and Ramapo there are also small Red Breasted Sunfish I also like catching .Once in a while a little bullhead also.
went fishing a couple days ago and fished with power bait and gold kastmaster and caught only 1 on the gold k/m.then a guy using dough bait with corn mixed in it ,started to catch some i asked him for some and we had a blast catching them, but the guy left and i did not get all the receipt the stuff was very tacky i wonder if or what he added to be like that,i am thinking karo syrup, anyone have a receipt that worked for them?
The larger sized nympsI can cast on a spinning rod and reel filled full with two lb test without a casting bubble .This year I may try the flyrod with them and /or acasting bubble in the small creeks and rivers .Trout catchers for sure but I suspect gills YPerch and other fish will go for them too!
The water is very low in Ringwood Brook but managed to catch a Brook Trout in the light rain yesterday. It's being Hickory smoked for breakfast to have with eggs right now!
Fall Stocking in the Ramapo and Wanaque Rivers in NENJ.Trout are lethargic and catching is slow .Got one rainbow ,15"1lb,8oz. Hit a Hildebrandt #1 spinner(flicker) Light take, not a good fight.10/12/12
Got skunked 10/13 at the Ramapo Hope the fishing really picks up during the week .
Waiting on the fall stocking of Blackwell and silversprings prefer Blackwell they stock with larger trout I limit out in silversprings but most fish are small useing spinners and minnows it's a nice place to fish I go on Mondays and Fridays when few ppl r there
Fall Stocking in New Jersey . OCT.5TH Got these two out of the Wanaque River in New Jersey . A 13"Rainbow and a thick 15" Brookie .Both female specimens. Charles- I started with spinners but nothin' ,so I switched to bait and worked a water falling pool till I found the proper drift and lie .These two musta been side by side !
Still trying to find that out Art .I know a lot of the lakes aren't getting stocked this year which sucks! Waywayanda ,Shepherds , Green Turtle .The lower Wanaque river isn't gonna be stocked either .Might be real slim pickins this year with a smaller area being crowded with fisherman .
I like to use velveta cheese some times I mix half cheese and power bait. I buy the cheat brand from walmart it last all year if you put in baggy and frig.
During the 2015 fall trout stocking season the Division of Fish and Wildlife will stock more than 20,000 trout in the state's major trout waters. The fish will be stocked from the Pequest Trout Hatchery from October 13-21.
This year will see a return to the stocking of larger fish measuring approximately 14" up to 22" in length and weighing one-and-a-half pounds to almost eight pounds. These Rainbow Trout will be stocked in 16 streams and 15 ponds over the two-week period.
As in past years, streams are stocked the first week, and ponds and lakes are stocked during the second week. The majority of streams stocked in the fall support holdover trout fisheries, providing anglers opportunities for larger trout to be caught year-round.
Fall trout-stocking is one of the most popular stocking programs offered by the Division of Fish and Wildlife. Anglers enjoy the additional fish provided by the Division as well as the opportunity to fish the waters of New Jersey during one of the most beautiful times of year. Cooler temperatures and reduced fishing pressure makes for a relaxed fishing experience. Any trout not caught during the fall will also be available all winter long for anglers to enjoy. Many are even caught the following spring.
The stocking boundaries for streams are the same as in the spring (see the current Freshwater Digest for information). There are no closed dates during the fall stocking period. Updates to the fall stocking program will be posted as necessary.
Don't usually catch Trout in a lake but got one on a #3 silver Krocodile spoon last week and my buddy Steve got 2 on a Rattlin' Rap. My fish was up in the column and jumped three times . I am guessing we caught them near a 10/20/ 30 ' convergence but didn't have the depth finder in the boat that day . Going by a undetailed map.
Landlocked Atlantic Salmon two fish Limit in New Jersey . Both 14,1/2" Tasted great but not like Pink flesh Salmon ,more like Trout .Ist time catch for me with this species .
Here's the last Trout and fish I caught .13.5" 1#3OZ. Tasted great .I slip floated a half crawler on a Carl Hendrix Jig ,5' below the surface in 10-12' of water .Rowing around in a 10 ' boat not far from the ramp where they were stocked I drifted and worked the oars in a spot I saw a Trout Jumping away from being chased by a Cormorant the day before .
An open water January Trout from shore .Tasted great poached in an aluminum foil pouch in the oven. Savignon Blanc wine, lemon, Rosemary and Butter .375 degrees for 25 minutes .
Ringwood Brook in May it's Dragonflies but I missed the hatch. 1/2 crawlers and a Spin Fly caught though in the rain. June is notoriously Crayfish bait month. Caught a Ringwood Brook , May is dragon fly Hatch but I missed it .Empty husks were on the rocks by the stream. 1/2 Crawlers and a Spin fly worked on Trout ,Bluegills and Fatheads in the rain though. June is Crayfish bait month.Caught an Anomaly of a Trout abnormally wide and abnormally short in length.Gonna try to get an answer from the state.
A Christmas Eve Tradition ,smoked Trout . This one was Apple chip smoked.I'm ashamed though I bought it at the Fish Market. Wrecked the best part of the Tradition!
Big surprise drifting over 22 feet of Water using a drift sock and scoring this beautiful rainbow at 12:30 pm today..Was quick to get her back in the water without a measurement as the water temp was 84 on the surface .She swam away fine . I 'm guessing 2# ,16.5" .Hit a Buck tail Jig I tied on an 1/8th oz. Eagle Claw Ball head Jig hook .I attached a Mister Twister Yellow Curl tail that I soaked in Vegetable Oil and Vanilla extract .
Never kept Summer Trout before with a Lake Surface Temp at 87.3 degrees but I had two frozen water bottles over them in the cooler and smoked them when I got home.
My best Rainbow Trout when Lake Fishing from a Boat, have come on large and small Spoons, Bucktail Jigs with 3" Curl tails, Crawler Spinner Harnesses ,4 " Swimbaits and Aglia Long #3 Spinners. In Streams or Rivers Crawlers or Mealworms and Small Squirrel tail Jigs with I" Gulp minnows.
