CANE POLE CRAZY

For people who like fishing the long poles. New, old or whatever, if its long and doesn't have a reel, this is the place to chat.

My Favorite Telescopic Pole - Please share your choice

My favorite telescopic pole is the South Bend Skinny Dipper. I use this pole for micro fishing bluegill in the margins and weed lines. The pole is fiberglass and  about 5 feet (1.5 meters) in length. Total cost is about $7.50

This pole is probably the only micro fishing pole available in the US with the exception of the top section of a 10 foot BNM cane pole. Small fish on this pole is amazing. Top water action with 2# test and a #12 dry fly is great. Poles do not need to be long or expensive. You just need to match the tackle to the fish. The US has over 1,100+ different types of fresh water fish, and the majority are less than 3-5 inches long.

You get a different perspective when you start to think small.

Would a whippy piece cane do the trick? I have 6 ft section that I think will do. Would Gander Mountain carry 2lb test I'm having trouble finding it locally and the shipping is outrageous on small items?

Cane would do the trick, GM should carry 2# test and fly fishing hooks. I would recommend anything under a #20 dry or nymph.

Price update - Walmart is now carrying these poles at $2.98 per unit. Pair this with 2# test and a #18 fly and you are micro fishing. The pole is also great for fishing under docks and small structures
