Thank you everybody for joining. I am sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I got married on Saturday.

Great pics everyone, Pumpkinseeds are so beautiful. Jim Ducy let me know some of the good lakes that you find, I live in the same area.

    Tight lines, Duane

  • Jacob Hill

Prettiest warmwater species out there. One of the only fish I catch in which I don't care about the size of the fish. Maybe if I could catch them the size you guys do then I would care.

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

Thank you Jeffrey D. Abney, Bruce Condello, Harold Ewing III, Jim Ducy, Jacob Hill, John Sheehan, Bill Musky Modica, Dwayne Denison, Steve Crowders, Steve Kooyers and 2lb Bluegill, for joining the group. It is growing fast, which is cool. I will be getting a lot more involved now, I got married on Saturday, so I have been very busy. I really want this group to be fun and informative. Tight lines, Duane

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

Bill, nice Pseed pic, that is a beauty, a lot of ice color and as big as your hand. Cool.

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

2lbgill, Those pics are awesome, what kind of crankbait is that?

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

Steve Kooyers, Sometimes the Bluegills get alot of orange on the belly, but if it has orange on the sides and the red ear, then it is a Pumpkinseed.

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

Jim Ducy, if you find any good Pumpkinseed lakes in that area, please let me know. I live in So. Wisconsin too. Lake Wingra and Lake Peewaukee have Pseeds in them.

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

Jacob Hill, I would love to catch Pumpkinseeds like these guys do too. I agree Jacob, Pseeds are the prettiest freshwater fish there is.

  • Jacob Hill

I'll have to dig around my computer for some seed pictures but they're nothing like those others. I prefer trout by a little but their coldwater so its a different game. By the way, check out my rock bass group if you're in to goggs (goggleye) as I call them.

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

Jacob, I will look forward to the pics and I will check out the Rock Bass group. There are a lot of them in the river I live by.

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

James Hayes, Welcome to the Pumpkinseed Fananaticds. I hope you have fun on here.  These are a good bunch of guys.

I have relatives and friends in OK.

    Have a great day, Duane

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

Has anyone fished Lake Geneva lately? I was wondering what the fishing is like with the warm winter. Can I catch Pumpkinseed and bluegill from shore? Any advice would be helpful, thank you.

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

How is the Pumpkinseed ice fishing going?

  • John Sheehan

Duane ,lousy because we dont have ice yet!!

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

John, I thought that maybe our northern lakes had ice.
    Keep those lines wet, Duane
  • John Sheehan

WE HAVE ICE NOW DUANE BUT IT MIGHT BE UNSAFE NEXT WEEK AS IT WARMS . HOPE TO GET OUT FOR A LITTLE TODAY AND TRY OUT MY HUMMINGBIRD ICE 35 AND CATCH SOME PANFISH!

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

I hope that you had good luck John.
  • John Sheehan

Thanks Duane but I struck out . Had no live bait and used Gulp Maggotts on jigs. I did get out which was fun and I used my new Flasher for the first time.

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

I am sorry that you struck out, John. How did the flasher work?

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

    Welcome to the group Flyboy.

  • John Sheehan

Worked fine Duane ,my skills and the Gulp Magotts didn't though .

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

Well at least you know the flasher worked.

  • Jacob Hill

    Beautiful Longeared Sunfish

  • John Sheehan

Jacob ,I think your fish deserves a feature ! It's beautiful .Any more shots of this fish or more like it?

  • Jacob Hill

thank you so much. are you sure that it's a long eared sunfish and not a regular pumpkinseed? i really apologize but i don't have any other good pictures, but i did catch more. i will post those. a huge flood and mild weather made for a huge spawn last spring/summer in the SE indiana creek i was fishing.

  • John Sheehan

Yes Jacob I think it's a Long Eared Sunfish not a Pumpkinseed at least as I know it .PSeeds I dont believe sport the Blue tinge on the fins ,jet black long ear and red eyes .But hey maybe folks in different regions of the country hav pet names and Pumpkinseed applies in your area. Here is a Pumpkinsed from NJ and note it has a red spot on the ear ,no Bluetinged fins and no red eyes .The eyes are blackish . Get other opinions though don't count on just mine! Love your fish ! Wish I could see them up close! Catch one for that matter . So it's a creek fish huh !Hmmm!

  • Jacob Hill

  • John Sheehan

I take it back my Pseed does have red eyes .Others I've caught don't .But still the Jet black long ear flap on yours differs from this fish .The blue fin tingeing on your fish and not mine makes it a different species to me .

  • Jacob Hill

well i'll be damned they are longears. i almost put one back in my aquarium, glad i didn't. all the old timers down here say they're long gone. my dad used to eat them back in the sixties from that stretch of creek thinking that they were pumpkinseeds.

  • John Sheehan

This one is also a beautiful fish! Aquarium is right!

  • John Sheehan

Another Pseed with out Redeye(either from the camera or actual color of fish eye)

  • John Sheehan

hmmm close up still shows red eye .Gonna have to recall to look at a live Pseed 's eyes now that I'm on this .Thanks Jacob now I gotta know!

  • John Sheehan

noticed your fish have coloring into the fins ,mine dont .I think your "LESunfish ' are prettier than "PSEEDS!

  • Greg McWilliams

Jacob, Here in Oklahoma that is known as Pumpkinseed!!!!! Since I joined this site I now call them LONGEARED PUNKINSEED!!!!!!!!

  • Jacob Hill

yeah greg its crazy what you learn on here. Those longears are endangered in like 10 states or something. The ones that i was catching migrate about 12 miles to that spot from the Ohio River

  • DUANE SCHULTZ

WELCOME TO PUMPKINSEED FANATICS GREG MCWILLIAMS.
  • Greg McWilliams

Thank you DUANE, chances of me catching a pumpkin seed are very slim since they are not in my waters!!!!!! But when I saw Jacobs shot I needed to let him know that is what pumpkin seed are here!!!!!! But I will stay here and learn might get to head NORTH someday!!!!!!

  • John Sheehan

  • Jeffrey D. Abney

Caught several decent sized Seeds the last few trips.. That's a pleasant surprise down in the brackish water rivers in coastal North Carolina....Let them go today to see how big we could get them.....

  • Jeffrey D. Abney

I catch many small Seeds but this one is the best of the season...right at 10 ounces.....

  • Jeffrey D. Abney

Here's a fact sheet about Pumpkinseed sunfish in North Carolina.....Pumpkinseed_profile.pdf

  • John Sheehan

    Nice Seeds Jeffrey!

  • John Sheehan

    Lake Honeoye NY

  • John Sheehan

A river seed grabbed a 32nd oz tube jig.

  • dick tabbert

These are the beauties of the fresh water.

  • John Sheehan

This week been catching pregnant pseeds up to 6" on Tabbert and Hendrix creations tipped with crawler pieces .Glad the Pseeds  survived last years fish kill.

  • John Sheehan

Being outnumbered with  competing Yellow and White Perch, Bluegills and Crappie,  I catch very few Pseeds in my community lake .However ,the few I catch are usually quite aggressive .Love this local underdog and always release.
