LINE WARS

There’s a war going on out there and the battlefield is your own fishing budget or wallet. I was truly amazed when I turned the corner at my favorite wholesale outlet… the fishing aisles were completely made over. The areas were expanded more fishing rod selections etc including the line aisle… which really caught my eye!... so many consumer choices!!

This is the place to give your own personal reviews, studies, opinions on your favorite lines and applications. Remember its to the point now with so many variables and specifications some lines are better suited for different applications of fishing than other lines. However many people prefer to keep it simple and do it all with one line… Either way fish happy,

The group is designed to inform ask questions and give reviews.

also any hints or tips pertaining to fishing lines... knots etc.

I've been using 2lb. Stren and have no problems with it.

Kelly Wow! 1# ice line is super fine! Do you lose fish on to breakage?

On the setups with the GLISS how did you experience the casting and strength with it’s over all fish ability? For me it is the extreme for micro jig casting for distance.

I have an ice spinning reel with orange braid that seems very thin in property… I fish on a slip/float/waxie setup thru the most of the open water season… as you say very clearly visible and does not seem to affect the numbers of fish compared to other color lines for me.

Leo wind has traditionally been my worst adversary … I used to hate fishing in it… most times I stay at home… the reason? I like throwing the micro jigs … feathers in the wind.

I set out 20180613 to one of my favorite lakes on a determined plan … new moon and trophy gills… looking at the forecast prediction of high winds I proceeded anyways. Once at the launch I sat in my car watching people leave the lake with high winds and white caps on the small lake. I decided to fish any ways under the New Moon Major.Period

I couldn’t find any real protected water to fish the floats and casting the micro jigs was nearly futile. I decided to use the wind as an accomplice and position the boat upwards of my waypoints and let the jigs fly with the wind scoring big time with a trophy and many lunkers what a day!

Thin super lines fly with the wind! Go with it!

I’ve been using some Stren 2# as tippet this year and it is horrible. It doesn’t hold knots well is the biggest problem.
Plus it’s prone to breakage. Most fish willing to take my flies are fairly big by many standards.
The Stren just doesn’t have the inherent strength to support the rest of the fly line system.
I find I can’t go below 4# reliably.

I used .004 mono from Japan, like it a lot. Also tried 1# ice line, (.025) braided. It’s so thin and wispy that it is hard to thread thru the jig eyes sometimes. It worked well but did not catch any large predators on it, just perch, crappies and bluegills.

Also have 8# Gliss on a reel since last year and 2# Nonofil or Nanobraid(can’t remember which withou going to the shed to check the spools).

Most of these lines are either the white/clear or green color. Need to try the orange so I can see it better to tie on jigs.

With the wind kicking up around here, I may be testing the line on how they handle holding the float tube in place in windy condition instead, since skunking is eminent.
