Back home in Michigan, I was born and raised here, learned to catch gills here....and now I'm back. Hoping to get a line in the water SOON, before I start trying to catch the goldfish in this tank! :)

Although I live in Ohio, Michigan is blessed with all to good inland lakes. Thank goodness I live close to the border and use them Mich. Lake as often as I possibly can. GOOD FISHIN...

Bluegill anglers in the Chicago Suburbs and NorthEastern Illinois area - our fishing club will be meeting tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CST for our first warm-up for Spring.

While this won't be an official event - you can still come out and fish, watch, learn or hang out with us. For information you can contact 773 - 850 - B I T E . The event will be fished here:

Lake Map

The bluegill population should cooperate tomorrow as we will be on the front end of a warm front. For those in the Chicago area you will get ideal weather should the wind hold off. This venue will offer us some shelter as we will fish the South East corner. There is a hill that will cut our wind on that side so this venue offers excellent anti-wind opportunity... I hope to meet you out there - but I understand it is a holiday weekend.

Catch our group when you can.

Indiana & Illinois Gillers - this weekend in Indianapolis, IN on the White River - (Washington St. Bridge section) - the U.S. Open Bank Angling championships will take place on Saturday a.m. (heat #1) and conclude on Sunday a.m. (final heat #2).
Many of the top anglers from around the country will fish for honors and a place on the U.S.A. fishing team.

I would be happy if we had visitors from BigBlueGill.com! You can visit with me after the weigh-in and watch during the competition. I will be happy to tell you what people are doing and hopefully what went well - or what didn't. I will be traveling tomorrow morning and will be fishing a practice session in the afternoon tomorrow. Call me if you wish to watch 630.235.2162 - I will have my cell phone there- or come down and watch the anglers. I have a blue seat box with two American Flags on either side. On Saturday & Sunday during setup and fishing - I won't be able to talk much as I will need to focus. BUT- if you watch, you will learn a TON. I can let you in on some of the happenings during the fishing session and let you know some of the tactics that I was using which will include: 42 - foot take-apart pole, 13.5 foot telescopic pole and a 18 - foot bolognese rod (long rod Italian river technique).

Interesting side note- 26,000 grubs were made ready for this event. I am stoked. Need sleep- hope you can make it out for one of the sessions if you are in the area. It would be worth a couple hour drive to see this competition. Most have never seen anything like it.

I will update Big Blue Gill.com as to the results and a brief (brief) daily update - Friday, Saturday and then Sunday night.

ugh.. I did it wrong too. Still recovering from last weekend's - too much sun-a-thon without sunglasses while on the water! I feel like Jack Sparrow all heat-stroked.
