Hey Dick, do you recall how late in the year you were getting them? I'm wondering if I can get them now with the water temp in the low 50's- high 40's and where would be the best place to find them .The best Walleyes around me are in Monksville Reservoir and Greenwood Lake .

Allen-The clown colored baits worked for me and two buddies up in Lake Ontario off the pier  in the dark as well! I think we used Rapalas and Cotton Cordell's.

Been awhile since I have been on Strawberry lake in Livingston County in Michigan but we were catchin some walleyes out of it on crank baits that and Hemlock in Reading Mi. The DNR stocks them..

John, my buddy did mention that the banks of that resevoir are rip-rapped.  If you have rip-rapped areas, I'd hit it!  The lakes around me are all natural; what few shoreline improvements are there usually means "seawalls".

Back in July/August, another friend on a "local" forum said that Walleyes in some lakes near me would hit Clown-colored X-Raps near shore after sunset on a full moon.

Carl- A neat anecdote from the book is Dalrymple describing how as a boy ,digging crawlers and kicking over the clods of dirt with his bare feet  and then walking the path made by horse wagons and  buggies to the river .Also mentioning a motorized vehicle was rare.

Allen .Those two Rapala caught Walleyes were caught in June from shore on an overcast evening about 4-5 pm .8:30 is around Sunset then .  So not a very high percentage time to catch i don't believe .Guess i just got lucky.

I sure would like to stalk Walleyes like your friend and wonder if I go down by the dam where there's  riprap if I can see their EYES as they swim and patrol. Thanks for the idea!

LOOKS LIKE A GOOD BOOK JOHN;; I MIGHT HAVE TO FIND ONE OF THOSE FOR MYSELF !

John, you mention that you caught those two on a floating Rapala in the evening.  How close to sunset?

I've got a buddy on a different forum that stalks Walleyes with jigs and/or soft plastic jerkbaits, usually after sunset.  Says he can see their eyes glowing as they patrol the shoreline.

That would be hard for most of the lakes around here.  They slope out so gradually that I would have to wade out at least knee-deep, maybe 100' from the shoreline, to get to productive water.

I get very little Walleye fishing in but I should change that .
