I hope to get some safe Ice this Year 2024. Last Year I did no Ice Fishing at all. If I get the chance this Year, I'd like to get into using a variety of Plastics for Panfish and Predators. Any success from anyone here, regarding use of Plastics? I have always relied on Salted Shiner Heads, Mealworms, Waxies and Spikes as well as Fatheads and Live Shiners on my Jigging Rods and Tip-ups. I just wound it up the shank and made a red collar. I used gold tinsel for a rib. I tied it on a 1/80 oz. size 6 jig hook.

2. Is tied on a size 6 hook in clouser style. I used dumbbell eyes, peacock color kreinik braid for the tail and body. The head is tied with an olive or green dubbing, I think I used ice dub.

3. Is tied on a gold jighead with marabou (see #1).

4. Size 8 scud hook with a gold bead head. I used fluorescent marabou for the tail and peacock herl behind the bead.

5. Olive marabou tail, red braid body, peacock ice dub head wrapped around silver dumbbell eyes. I think it's a size 6 hook.

6. Olive marabou and pearl krystal tail, pink braid body and pearl ice dubbed round the size 6 jig head hook of 1/80 oz.

7. Size 6 hook and dumbbell eyes, red pearl braid and ice dub head. Olive marabou tail with few strands of pearl krystal flash.

Numbers 1, 4 & 6 seem to be my best producers. They are not the only flies (lures) I use, but they do work most of the time.

I like to fish the 8-12 ' zone first in wood ,weed or rock structure and then work into the shallower and deeper sections from there .I generally jig deeper and set tip ups shallower. I like to have the Flasher unit with me on the hole I'm jigging while watching the dead stick rod and the tip-ups when I pause my cadences.

On Tip ups I've used 30# braided nylon and attached a barrel swivel to a regular mono leader in 8 and 6 # test but have gotten away from it and intend only using Low stretch Mono ,Fluro ,Copolymer or braided line .Not sure what I'll end up with this year but here's a start :

Eagle Claw Lazer ice Line mono 6#-Claims are : Superior knot strength, low diameter ,low stretch ,high tensile strength.,abrasion resistant. Using for Medium Heavy jigging Rods with larger Jigs and spoons 1/16-1/4 oz .Tip ups with shiners.2017

Trilene Cold Weather #4-Claims are ;tough low memory . Using for deadsticking and small bait jigging rod .1st ice 2017 one Pickerel bite off .

Trilene 100% Flurocarbon Ice 3# -Claims are ; invisibility, superior sensitivity, low stretch with extra thin diameter. Using Hand held Flat Line combo for Bluegills and other panfish , fishing tiny jigs and baits.

Trilene Micro Ice 8#-Mono that claims thin diameter toughness with low stretch sensitivity . Using for tip up leaders fishing live Shiners .Heavier jigging Rods with larger Jigs and spoons 1/4 oz and heavier . 1st time on ice this line help up well on 5 pickerel and 2 Crappie . However the coiling is excessive on a spinning reel .Has decent sensitivity though on a 1/4 oz spoon.
Homemade ice fliestag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2016-12-04:2036984:Topic:7060332016-12-04T15:52:54.154ZJohn Sheehanhttp://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/JohnSheehan
