20170906-full Moon peak of the month

There is absolutely no better time to be out on the water than the full Moon.  Looking at the weather forecast I would be battling lengthy downpours through this session.  So considering the rain beginning in just minutes, I decided to fish a local spot with quick access to the water and a few good waypoints.

I barely get to my spot when the rain started settling in. Thank God for my Frogg Toggs what a great asset they proved to be this season. I find it difficult just like most everyone to fish in the downpours. Large drops hitting the fishing rod destroys the sense of feel. Also very thankful for the calm conditions despite the rain.

I found a good few quality fish Long-Casting/0.032 oz jigs/pink-waxie with a few gill hitting the 9 inch mark… saving the day.

I lost a major tug and pull from a deep water Lepomis at the deep cut under the bridge... a major disappointment.

I also picked up a few stragglers with the slip-float/pink waxie casting along the shallow weed pockets along the rip-rap.

I considered it a slow day for the Major Solunar period… probably just not locating the fish concentrations.

At the end of the short trip, I was rewarded with clearing skies and a complete beautiful rainbow.

20170909-the itch needs to be scratched...it’s been nearly 40 days since I last tagged a Master Angler Certificate fish.

I’ve been fish bridge structure in a few of my last outings mainly for the sole reason on tagging a fish I had on for a short period… it was a major tug!... a few short seconds and it was gone!! Vertically jigging a school of fish along a row of pillars... i hooked up... a few drag pulls and a Lepomis deep circle run and it pulled free.

I need this fish in the boat!!

Later today may find me in that area.

2010909-on a 61% solunar projected day I decided to fish the bridge pillars on the major period from 14:50 thru 17:20 pm.

With weather easing into a more pleasant pattern after a lingering cold front conditions and some notable drop in water temps i was expecting somewhat negative fishing conditions… and I got them. Fishing activity seemed neutral throughout the major period.

I was able to extract a 9” class P.Seed and a upper 8’s B.Gill finessing the Long-Cast/.016oz Jig/Waxie & Lil Minnow through some weed bed edges and pockets.

Numbers were low in tagged fish.

20170910-Saturday I made plans to fish with my wife Sunday afternoon’s major solunar peak… she would target the preds as always and leave the panfishing to me.

Sunday, she stalled all morning and finally decides she wasn’t going but wanted to stay home and mow the lawn! I was already late for the start of the peak! I decided to head to the quickest on the water access and was on the lake in less than 15 mins headed for my waypoints. The days target was the B.Crappie and secondary B.Gills.

Two of my favorite setups were pre-loaded with Lil-Minnow and Mid-Minnow. Within a handful of casts I was latched on to a monster SMB that produced one of the best rod and reel battles of my lifetime on the 5-6’ UL with 8# GLISS (2# mono dia equiv). at one point this fish was wrapped up in the concrete columns of the bridge it’s final jump just fell short of jumping into the boat! Finally got a net to her measured him up at just breaking the 20” class truly a fish of a lifetime for many… ive been lucky enough to break that mark over a handful of times.

A couple casts later a muscular LMB attacked the Long-Cast/.016 oz Jig/Lil-Minnow. Then shortly after a few more casts I set the hooks into a fish that took some line out deep with a dogging fight. I knew straight away it was a big Walleye. I horsed the fish in a little knowing there was rebar and broken concrete in the mix on the bottom substrate. The fish was quickly CPR’ed and released.

Letting the spot settle I decided to move to another known B.Crappie spot. I fished a popular laydown that extends visibly from the bank to 9-0’ FOW. I nailed a few Y.Perch with one extending over the 10” mark and a 80% rated R.Bass. the last fish on this spot was a B.Crappie in the 10” range. Not liking the Vertical-Jig/.016 oz Jig/Lil-Minnow and /Waxie presentations I moved to a weedy flat up river.

Intently watching the sonar I noticed quite a few stumps mixed in with the thinly populated weed bed. I tagged many b>Crappie up to the 12” mark in this location before I headed back in. the popular baits were Lil-Minnow and Mid-Minnow

All the fish were tagged during the Major solunar period from 16:00 – 19:30 pm

Did you observe any surface activities by bugs or signs of underwater bubble discharges by chance?
