We usually fish no shallower than 8 feet, especially now with all the summertime weeds and moss. The "average" depth where I have caught most of the large BGs is maybe about 12 ft. But we fish on down into 20 to 30 ft sometimes too. As for a video, it would be fun to make one, but I do much of my fishing from a float tube, so it will be a little tough to do.

I've never been much into autopsies but I might start. Now what about the depth of water you usually fish and that action movie I heard you were gonna' star in? "CRICKET AND THE JIG HER LOW".

Yes, that's the reason that I started hooking them backwards. But with the Bluegill that I have cleaned and checked their stomach contents, almost all of them had the remains of something very dark, probably aquatic insects and worms and most definitely damselfly and dragonfly larva, which I think the backwards crickets might resemble more so than crawfish. I don't think I have yet to see any crawfish remains in Bluegill stomachs. I have seen them in Redear Sunfish though.

I am stunned that there are brands of "plastic crickets". I googled and found one on Cabelo's. D & J Plastic Cricket. The following is a review on that page. It sounds like one of my reviews for gulp! Yes the reviewer is from Alabama. No I don't know him.<br />

"I've had absolutely no success with the product. I used them on an outing when I had both live and the artificial crickets. I constantly had success with the live cricket. But, whenever I placed the artifical cricket on, I had no bites! I would then change back to the live bait and the fish would immediately bite again. At one time I placed the artifical cricket on along with a live cricket. The fish would take the live, but not the artifical cricket."<br />

Thomas, I haven't seen anything from Mayo for sometime. He dropped his brand new I-Phone or something in the drink awhile back and his wife may have taken away all his electronics.<br />
<br />
Let's see if he's just lurking! I'm gonna steal his bait and answer for him. Maybe he'll come out of hiding and nail me.<br />

Fishing on the bottom with a float means the fish will swim away with the bait and the float will slide in the direction of escape. SET THE HOOK NOW! If you are going to mess with crickets, get over your hatred of bait stealing. It goes with the territory. There are more crickets. Most cricket thieves are small. The big boys suck 'em on in down south. I like the skinniest float I can get. Porcupine quills, available at most bait shops and even Bass Pro are great. So are the skinny red and white so called pencil floats. # 8 hook works good and a single "B" sinker makes a real slow descent for the cricket. You still have to get the crickets where the gills are, but when you do, you will see why we like them so much. What brand plastic cricket do…tag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2010-08-29:2036984:Comment:995792010-08-29T14:53:37.709ZJohn Sheehanhttp://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/JohnSheehan

Greetings Jeremy, I have tried crickets many times with limited luck. I hate bait stealing! Many times I'll have just the head missing. Can't figure it out. I've not heard of fishing them on the bottom. My guess is so you can see better bobber movement. Let me know. Also, what is the best bobber for crickets? I usually catch 1 out of five with crickets and the go to worms or flys. I catch many more gills when I tip my fly with a spike. They stay on forever. The heck with the purist!
