<p>Golden shiners have that golden-orange body color. When I checked in the book I mentioned, I saw the red shiner has that exact body color of the fish David caught.</p>

Pretty sure its a brown bullhead. Without counting the fin rays there is no way to be sure, of course. The name "brown" is sorta misleading, as they come in a range of variations.<br />
The shiners were a lot of fun to catch, I give em that! Thanks for looking them up.
