very good fish John and presentation... this winter Ive decided to hit the ice a little harder... mainly due to better weather and ice conditions. my main focus was bluegill this year but i have always done well on the crappie in the past... years and years ago. im having a hard time locating the crappie on this lake ice fishing that during the summer there were days i would catch over a hundred mid day.still working on it and gathering data. thanks for the tips John.

Love the evening Crappie bite just before and at dark .The Gills, and Yellow Perch are the most prolific catches I get 'round here!.Be safe and enjoy Andy ! What species are you most interested in ? Me ,I like them all through the ice but a nice Trout fights great and bangs a bait hard. I've only caught two Trout through the ice though . Mostly Bluegills, and yellow Perch ,followed in frequency by , Bass ,Crappie, White Perch, Pickerel and once a Bullhead .

Mostly slip floating and the Crappie loved the Squirrel tail/chartreuse twister tail/Perch eye offering . Rip rap with a band of windblown leaves right up against the end of the lake was the ambush point for Crappie and Yellow Perch. Caught about 5 nice heavy and thick Crappie 11" - 13" and then it was all Yellow Perch besides perhaps another Crappie or two .…

Last year I started suspecting the Blue Gills and P Seeds were bullying the Crappie I use to catch at this spot in early Spring.Bullying them off the great willow tree blowdown spot in the NW section with a pipe of warmer water entering the lake.I havent seen a Crappie at this spot yet this year but have caught a few way down the lake at a sunken oak tree very near ,YOU GUESSED IT ,another Willow tree .Willow Tree blowdowns are KEY on my lake for Pannies in early Spring be it PSeeds,…

Another great thing about fishing the light thin branches of willow tree blowdowns is you can fish 4lb. test from shore and pull in the snags without having to go heavier...not so with a sunken Oak Tree.
