This is a fun site but most of all we hope a learning site. The reason it works for all of us is we share. We talk fishing of all types. This year I started fly fishing after 60 some odd years. I was like most it was first live bait then I advanced to artificial mostly jigs. Mater of fact I just got my Grand Daughter started on jigs this year and she loves it. So as we go on we try out different skills and skill levels and I can't think of a better place to learn than here. You'll find the people here are more than willing to share there experiences in great detail so all the info is out there all we have to do is listen. Then we have our forums if you have questions there's no better way to find that answer than to ask. Yes we have a great site here no mater how you fish or what you fish for I'm sure you will find lots of answers here. We can all learn and do so enjoy the site and your more than welcome here.
Very Nice looking popper Ma…tag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2012-07-28:2036984:Comment:2953282012-07-28T08:27:30.863ZLeehttp://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/Lee

there are lots of different ways to dress your poppper. FIrst choice for me is several saddle hackle in the tail then a collar of saddle hackle palmered forward to the back of the popper body. If I tie in legs I tie them behind the body before the collar and work the collar around them. I catch lots of gills on legless poppers like my shad popper, if minnows are the meal of the day. some days gotta have legs! second choice is marabou/rabbit or some other thing thats wavy even some rubber…

I catch lots of gills on legless poppers like my shad popper, if minnows are the meal of the day. some days gotta have legs! second choice is marabou/rabbit or some other thing thats wavy even some rubber skirting, and some kind of collar either saddle hackle or sometimes estaz. I tend to use cheaper stuff like strung hackle and marbou in my poppers I frequently add crystal flash or flashabou the tail. This shad popper has white marabou, pearl crystal flash and a collar of blue dun hacle (no rubber legs) and is one of my best producers.
I mix a couple strands of…tag:bigbluegill.ning.com,2012-07-27:2036984:Comment:2952022012-07-27T12:51:43.423ZLeehttp://bigbluegill.ning.com/profile/Lee

I mix a couple strands of krystal flash in with the rest of the tail, maybe it helps the fish to focus in on the Hook end of the bug maybe not? It's kinda like eyes and spots on poppers, looks good to me but maybe the fish don't care :)

The Gurgler that Mark mentioned and the Stealth Bomber are also Great Topwater patterns that work well anytime the fish are looking up. Both are an easy tie, here's a link to the Stealth…

Good point about the marabou. I was thinking of using it, but I'm glad you responded.
