Bob, I thread them just the opposite, I start the hook in the poop shoot, through the body, and out just below the head. They stay on well and are very easy to put on that way. Can sometimes catch several fish per cricket if I can get a quick hook set. I use hi vis line and watch for the line twitch.

Yes you can mail order them in bulk, I believe from Grubco. I know they do waxies and spikes and other baits as well.

Man, you got that right, $.15 each and they're tiny. Walmart here has them for about $2.35 per tube of 100.

Crickets rock up in northern MN during the mid-summer months as well. Tough part is keeping them on the hook. They're usually destroyed or taken off after the first nibble. The most under-utilized bait in my opnion has got to be the euro in the summer. Everyone goes nuts for eurolarvae in the winter, why not in the summer? They stay on the hook 10x better than any other live bait out there...

Boogie, you have no idea how much I'd like to live down south in the land of endless bluegill :-)
Since I'm fairly stuck in California for the foreseeable future, does anybody know where I might get crickets in the San Francisco bay area, and without venturing into San Francisco? (Don't get me started; I'd rather drive through LA :p). None of the one tackle shops near me sells them.
I have found that baby clams from a can at the supermarket work much better than crickets as they are tougher and harder for the fish to pull off the hook. Which is what happens with crickets. BGBM must stick them on with superglue, as he has amazing success with them.
